In case anyone was wondering, The Hound is a force of nature! His Forced Reaction has proven to be a non-issue in my games, but extra Military strength to trigger Put to the Sword or extra Power strength to trigger Support of the People is extremely powerful. Even managed to live the dream in my last game and defend a critical challenge, have him return to hand, and then Hear Me Roar! him back into play for free using Fealty.
I wasn't wondering at all
In a faction that has access to extra economy, I find his forced reaction to be a benefit more often than not. His bouncing back into play means he can avoid Wildfire and Varys, and can save him from Tears. With Tyrion out there generating extra gold, I've ambushed him in twice in a phase a few times, which is especially good to avoid stealth and to trigger events such Put to the Sword.
And The Hound isn't loyal, either. I hope The Mountain will be equally as good if not better.
The Hound is loyal to nothing. Except killing.
You could use your own Treachery to prevent his forced reaction from occurring, yes? I realize this would rarely be the most optimal play, just curious if it is legal. Thanks!
You can, 1 g + 1 card vs 1 random card, could be worth it
An ability like this would be great on The Mountain when he comes out. Because he is addicted to milk of the poppy and it would make sense to give him huge stats with a bad card test like this one...
Yes, you can choose to not discard a card and then save him from the return to hand effect with a dupe.
Is it me or people are looking at this as a bad thing? I think this is really nice Forced reaction.
It is, as long as you have the necessary economy to support him. The Hound does not come cheap.
I'm sure Tyrion will find some coppers here and there.
Seems like one of the greatest cards so far.
As first player, can I Ambush The Hound in after all my challenges are complete, before player 2's challenges, when player 2 has no un-knelt characters to challenge with, and avoid The Hound's Forced Reaction?
In other words, is there still a challenge window before player 2 declares any challenges, when player 2 can in fact make no challenges?
Thank you, as always!
Yes. As per the flow charts on p25 of the RR, there's an action window before every (challenge / opportunity for the opponent to declare no more challenges).
For more information about this, and how to handle this timing property in-game, see this thread.
Thank you. I have become very familiar with the timing chart and have actually become quite a stickler for correct sequencing. I guess I just overthought the issue and wondered if a challenge phase window was still open when a player not only passed on all challenges, but actually could not make any challenges at all. Thanks for the clarification. Always appreciated!
