When Lanni Harrenal kills him, does he triggers to give a gold? Harrenal specifies "At the end of the phase, if that character is still in play, kill it".

Is "At the end of the phase" still "during the challenges phase"?

No. It is same ToL stuff that happens in between phases.

FAQ: End of Phase Timing Sequence
 
2. "Until the end of the phase" lasting abilities (and "during the X phase" abilities) expire. This step is the precise moment at which the phase ends, and anything that occurs as a result of the next two steps occurs outside of the phase.
 
3. "At the end of the phase" delayed effects resolve
