An underrated hero in my opinion. You have to build a deck around him to make him work, but it is worth it in my opinion. Basically Gloin + Forest Spider (Core) + Daughter of the Nimrodel (Core) = Steward of Gondor (Core).
I agree. Gloin + Daughter of Nimrondel is core mechanic in many of my decks - pre Zigil Miner at least. Is probably still more reliable.
Agreed. Play Glorfindel (Core) for your lore hero and if you are 3 sphere, add tactics for
Horn of Gondor (Core) and Song of Mocking (TDM) plus Song of Battle (TDM) and Song of Wisdom (CatC) and Gloin becomes an insane resource prducer.
For anybody interested in a strategy article about Gloin, look no further:

Gloin was the backbone of my secrecy deck. Bifur and he made it through many adventures.

Give him some armor and some healing, then add some expensive cards to your deck, because you'll have much to spend.

Send him questing and then let him soak up the undefended attacks: this guy loves abuse.
