My assumption is you can play out of sphere allies with this?
Yep. The FAQ says that it can be used to play cards "without a resource match required"
Well, since it attaches to Elrond there is no "out of sphere allies" for you anyway
.... and this played with Gandalf's search gives you unlimited access to your deck? Does the X price value for GS can be any number? I've always played it this way to go through my deck and grab the card I want, and rearrange the order of my deck.
I think X is zero in this case, meaning Gandalf's Search wouldn't do anything.
I found this in the FAQ :
(1.40) The letter X
Unless specified by a card effect, or granted player choice, the letter "X" is equal to 0.
I only see the granted player choice part when I read the FAQ... and for all the times that the game rectifies rules that don,t exactly help the player, this one makes GS and Vilya AWESOME!
Well... it was too good to be true... Seems that Caleb clarified this situation, and here, x = 0, so you can't play cards like Gandalf's Search with Vilya.
Another way to make the game more... challenging.
There is enough Vilya-haters already, dont feed them
Vilya is an awesome card and reflects how powerfull Elrond with the ring was. And with Gandalf hero in the deck? Oh imagine the possibillities.
