Man, I googled so much but just could not find an answer to what must be a total basic question:
Can you discard Lukes Lightsaber when you are not focused? Just to put it back from the discard pile for the damage?
I guess I'm missing something really trivial here, since no one ever seemed to have the same question. Maybe a basic discard enhancement rule?
Basic card ability rule (from the FAQ):
(3.6) Initiation of Card Abilities
In order to trigger a card ability, the possibility that at least some independent aspect of that card ability’s effect might successfully resolve must exist. (In other words, card abilities cannot be initiated just to pay the cost.) If, given the current game state, it is impossible for at least one aspect of the effect to resolve, the ability cannot be triggered.
If Luke is not focused, it is impossible to remove a focus token from him. Therefore, you cannot initiate his ability just to pay the cost of discarding the enhancement.
You can't just discard enhancements (or units, for that matter) at will.
As for discarding with Luke's ability - no, Luke must have a focus token on him to use that ability. The FAQ (3.6, I think) states you can't trigger an ability if none of its independent effects can resolve (i.e., you can't trigger an ability just to pay its cost).
Thanks a lot for the answer and explanation. The help from both of you and the fast response is really appreciated.Read it right away and didn't lose any more sleep over it, just couldn't find a keyboard earlier to say thank you.
I like this picture much better than the Core set Luke.
You don't like the big lips Luke?
