Interesting that Rancor vs. Star Destroyer is such a common example of the unthematic combat system, given that this is a DS card (of course it is, what else could a god damn Rancor be?), so unless we ever get a Civil War rule variant, or LS has ways to take control of enemy characters, that match-up will never happen.
Yup but try telling the haters that.
RANCOR VS X-WING MAKE NO SENSE. THIS GAME R TURRIBLE.

Is that better?
Lol, I saw that one coming.

Is there ever a time in tournament play when one should play a rancor? Or do you just dump him to an edge battle and leave well enough alone?

1)Yes
2)Depends

Definitely can be played. He'll munch through Jedi decks pretty well and can be a great defender against vehicles in a pinch with those 3-4 unit damage icons.

I'm thinking of running a Sith Control deck with Serve the Emperor and Shadows of Dathomir. That way if I run out of stuff to eat I can always feed him Prophets.

Ick, run something more useful than Serve the Emperor for things to feed the Rancor. For instance, Imperial Command. Sure, the Duty Officer and Stormtroopers are cards you'll regret seeing die more than the Prophets, but they're also better cards to have out before they die, and after they die it doesn't matter how good they were as they're equally good while dead.

Does it mean that Rancor may destroy the lowest cost unit of BOTH sides? So Rancor can beat a Dark side card?

The lowest cost unit in one side OR the other. Examples...

1. Light side has a 3 cost character in play. You only have Rancor and you just refreshed. The forced reaction must trigger and it would destroy the light side unit, as it has the lowest cost.

2. Same case but light side has a 5 cost character instead. Rancor would destroy itself.

3. Light side has a 2 cost character in play. You have Rancor and a 2 cost character as well. You may choose which 2 cost unit to destroy with Rancor's reaction. Normally, that would be the light side unit.

Just to clarify: If after I refresh there's only 2 Rancors on the board I can destroy one of them with the other one, so I don't have to destroy the other one with the dead Rancor.

Both would have triggered on refresh and you're just picking picking which goes first. Which ever one you picked it would still mean there's a rancor's ability (alive or dead) that needs to be finished. In the end, both are being nommed through cannibalization.

Incorrect. They trigger one at a time. So the first to trigger eats the 2nd one. The 2nd is now no longer in play and cannot trigger its ability.

There isn't a "stack" that all Reactions (Forced or otherwise) get placed into and then resolved. Each one triggers and then resolves before the next triggers.

Thanks for the clarification. Reading the FAQ is probably important.

Thanks for all answers
