Hey guys, Had this come up in a game recently and wasn't sure how to play it, can any one help?

1} We did end up playing it as this: We thought that the 'combat phase' was called the 'engagement phase' but played this as a single combat against 1 location.

2} Because he had troopers left unfocused, and used them to attack another location, we questioned if the buff from TA was still in effect on the now attacking troopers?

We play mtg primarily and effects like this last until end of turn and hit everything you own. Im hoping we played it correct (1) but would like to make sure for future play.

When someone declares an attack on an objective it becomes an engagement. When the combat eg edge, striking, unopposed damage is finished for that objective the engagement is over. So this event only lasts for that 1 objective battle. Secondly: all units in the engagement must strike. Does not matter if they won't do anything or have no target for their icons. They must focus to strike for the engagement to end. Hope this makes sense. The best way to understand timing and all the terms coming from magic is read page 30 & 31 in the rule book. That explains when everything happens, what it's call and when the action windows are (this one has been the biggest bit to get around for most people I know who play mtg) If you need help with anything else don't hesitate to ask mate

Cheers mate. I'm glad to see that we played it correctly. I myself said if it was indeed the second scenario it would just be insanely powerful- nigh on broken (in mtg terms ;) ).

Yeah we focused all participating units, but he had held other 'trooper' types back for defence. What Im loving abut this game (other then the SW goodness) is its difference from mtg and how amazingly deep the mechanics are, the combat feels awesome.

Also if the pages your talking about are the turn/phases 'map' at the back of the rules, yes it has been very helpful, especially the action window between declaring attackers/declaring defenders. and the one right at the end of a turn during force commitment (for force choking stuff). Im finding the one thing were struggling with and keeps tripping a few of us up is- unlike mtg the is only x1 deployment phase before combat. where all good mtg players keep there good stuff back for after combat, and Im like nope!
