Confirming that this means instead of striking, apply 1 damage to a non-participating Wookiee unit (ie you wouldn't apply 2 damage to such a Wookiee if you had won the edge).
the unit still strikes. It's essentially targeted strike against wookies only.
It would have said may "strike" a non-participating Wookiee instead then, or even "deal it's damage to" or similar. The term "damage" by itself means "deal 1 damage". That's why I thought I'd post a note.

Oh, thanks. That wasn't really made clear on the card (at least not before you knew it).
To me, the card simply says that you can damage a wookie. When you say that you "confirmed" that this only means "1 damage", are you saying that you got a rules clarification from Nate? Because I have never read anywhere in the rules that states that when you see the word "damage" it means explicitly "1 damage".
I would have read this the same way as hundreds. PBrennan, did you get a ruling from Nate on this one at some point?
I would think that it would have said: "When this unit strikes during an engagement, it may instead place 1 damage on a target Wookiee unit not participating in the engagement.
It seems clear just from reading the card that it does indeed strike (for purposes of various effects). Reading it as "Targeted Strike for Wookies" is how I interpret it, it just doesn't make sense to print it that way on the card. It is also deals whatever damage it would do to a participating unit: 1 black, 1 white, and more if is gaining from other effects.
Hmm, after checking the card's history, I better get confirmation either way. The original effect's intent during playtest was clearly that it strike instead, but it's hard to tell if the late change might have been trying to clarify that or change that. What led me down this path are effects like Questionable Contacts ("damage this objective"), but Nate will probably rule that "damage this" means "deal 1 damage to your own" rather than that "damage" means "deal 1 damage", as there are lots of effects that actually say "deal 1 damage" as well. Let's settle on that it strikes instead for the moment, given that was the original intent, until there's word either way. Sorry 'bout that - sometimes you overthink it.

Patrick, your contributions to the community is much appreciated. Thanks for checking up on this.
Especially when it's about such an important card as a fellow Trandoshan.
There are probably help groups available for you. :)
Here's the confirmation of intent from Nate. TH deals "2 damage, if it has the edge. The effect works like a limited form of targeted strike, that allows the scope of the strike to extend to Wookiees. The "Damage this objective to..." is referring to a cost, where a player is optionally damaging one of his own cards, and 1 damage is all that is required to pay the cost. (There's also nothing in the game that allows a player to "overpay" a cost.)"

Now Darksbane, if you can just delete all the comments above and leave this one, that will leave the the issue pleasingly unconfused and me less embarrassed for starting the confusion in the first place ;-)
Yay! Death to the wookies!
