If you're willing to toss a 2 Force Point card in an unopposed edge stack, you get the trigger for this card, right?

Yep*

*Exception involves DS taking control of a Ruusan Colonist, which can give the DS an edge value even when they don't have a participating unit... then you may have to toss 3 icons.

Wait a sec, does this mean that if LS (or DS) has a Ruusan Colonist committed to the force, the edge battle is *always* contested and the opposing side has to drop 2 icons in to win even if it is, technically, unopposed?

If the battle is already unopposed (there are no defenders participating), then the defenders can't even participate in the edge battle so they can't increase how many pips they have in edge. db is just point out that Ruusan Colonist still adds their pips to the edge even though the defender doesn't need to have a participating defender. This doesn't mean that the defender gets to add cards to the edge, just that they will have a natural 1 edge instead of zero.

It's complicated. The rulebook says:

If the defending player controls no defending units, the attacking player automatically wins the edge battle

This rule still holds.  As a defender, you need at least one participating unit to win edge.

But the Ruusan pip does make the edge battle count as "contested" for cards like A Quick Hunt.

See http://www.cardgamed...-and-contested/ for discussion.

I think normanh isn't asking about ability to add cards, but about the edge battle being considered "contested."

Yes, Ruusan Colonist does cause the edge battle to become contested.

I had not seen the ruling on the Ruusan from last year:

Also, just for completeness sake, it is impossible to have a Ruusan in play AND to have Make Your Own Resources in your deck, because the respective objectives are affiliation restricted.

In general, yes.  But 2v2 allows it.
