Query: as this card has the Black Squadron keyword, does its reaction apply after you play it, making the next BS card you play this turn cost one less, or does the reaction only go off after the card is already down?

I've been operating on the assumption that it only applies after it's already in play, but I thought I'd ask.

It does react to itself.

It does react to itself.

I thought it did, but my local crew was arguing it doesn't.  Is there another card like this or instance I can refer to?

I can't think of a card with a similar reaction, but you shouldn't need another card to point to.  You play elite pilot training to the table, pay for elite pilot training.  Take a reaction, After you play a Black Squadron card, reduce the cost of the next Black Squadron card you play this turn by 1.  Done.

A reaction happens after its triggering condition.  so the triggering condition in this case is: "after you play a black squadron card".  so you just did that, and now your utilizing the cards reaction that is on the table.

I think I'm right but this chains doesn't it? There's no 'limit once per turn' so in theory you could just empty your hand, 2 resources for the first BS card, then 1 off another, 1 off the next?

But not for Black Squadron pilots played as pilots, only if they're played as units.

That's correct. There's no limit, so you can trigger the reaction every time you play a Black Squadron card. However, because the reaction only reduces cost, not pilot cost, the reduction doesn't apply to pilots when they're played as pilots.

Crazy. I finally built the Sith Black Squadron deck I've been hankering for - the only Imperial pod is Guarding The Wing. It seems the only limit with EPT out is the unlikely scenario of getting a handful of the Imp-affiliation TIE Fighters and only 1 or 2 matching resources, otherwise this could be huge.

It gets better.  Have Guarding the Wing out.  Play Elite Pilot Training.  React to itself.  Focus EPT to pay for a 2nd copy of EPT.  React with both.  Play all of the 2-cost Black Squadron cards in your hand for free (perhaps ending with Black Squadron itself for 3).

Nearly, it's Limited so only 1 per turn.

Oops, you're right... still pretty good split across 2 turns.
