This card pretty neat but low health

Black two comes to save it ! Seriously this is a good fighter, especially with Vader and Bobba Fett pilot coming.

average health for a 2 cost chud

Baron Fel could work as well, this unit may be average alone, but its reaction is what will make it great.

I added this pod to my TIE swarm deck, and after I attached Baron Fel on this fighter this becomes quite a monster on the board. The only problem is its low health, but its ability to add the pilot's combat icons makes it a great card.

So much good thing. Black squadron pilot will bring it to 3 unit and 3 blast damage with the edge. Mauler can make him strike then get back to safety while adding 3 icons.
DS-61-3 now becomes more than just a sneaky way to get direct damage. I feel academy pilot are not that good but this unit is kickass.

Keep in mind, some of the icons on these pilots are edge enabled, do require winning an edge to even use them, which is problematic with ties, specially if your running this set, superior numbers, kuat reinforcements, defense protocol, guarding the wing. Only the Sith sets have good edge and with or superior numbers your required to run navy. I can't put together a tie deck I feel is consistent and competitive, but maybe that's just me....
Academy pilot isn't that good, but I see it as a protection against Desperation, and it's a free attachment, to boot. My TIE ended up beating my brother's Rebel deck and although it lost to his Jedi deck, it took two objectives and made my brother sweat. Hopefully the pilot Vader will give a shot in the arm that it needs to become tournament viable.

The pilots are good as units as well if you need some extra blast in a pinch, as sometimes happens with my TIE decks.

If you have Baron Fel or Precision Flying out, winning the edge battle is almost a given.
