Seems pretty good...
Looking at the new 2v2 rules it got me thinking... I can play Luke on my ally's unit [since he is friendly]. If it is then destroyed, who controls Luke?

You would as it is still your card.
An awesome Jedi set for a Rebel Speeder Deck!

You get a speeder, a tauntaun and two fate cards. All are neutral, so no resource trouble! And Luke is still good in Edge Battle if you don't have the objective out.
If Luke is attacking in a Speeder or Fighter and his vehicle gets destroyed after its attack (i.e. the vehicle got a focus token on it), Luke is "hopping off". Can he be focused to strike in the same battle because now he's playing as a unit instead of an enhancement? Or do I have to wait for the next round to focus Luke for defense / offense? (I really hope this isn't a newbie question :D)

He'll be out of the engagement, unable to strike the already engaged objective. But he remains ready and able to attack any other objective that hasn't been engaged already that turn.

Oh, ok. Thanks! The manual doesn't cover such specific questions. At least the German version.
What I have noticed is that it often comes down to reading the exact words on the cards. There should be a section in the manual about the differences between 'play' and 'put in to play'. More specifically, you can compare the text on this card with Admiral Ackbar and the Human Replica Droid which should say 'Play as a participating unit'. That makes the difference whether or not it can strike in the same engagement.

So now that we have the Rogue Squadron cycle with all of its pilots who have the Piloting keyword I am wondering if this card, along with Wedge Antilles and the Black Squadron Pilot will get updated to be in line with the new ones. Specifically, I am wondering if these cards will be able to pilot anything or still only Fighters and Speeders. If that is the case, we can still circumvent it via Stay on Target, which allows us to place a Pilot unit on a vehicle as an enhancement. So are we basically looking at a convoluted way to put Luke in charge of Home One or will the old pilots get errata to put them in line with the new ones?

They have been updated. Look at the latest FAQ.

Yeah, I looked at it. So basically while Luke can pilot anything he only gives the bonus if he pilots a Fighter or Speeder? Otherwise he would still be a pilot but provide no bonus beyond that, is that the right interpretation of the rewording?

Yes. Which means his abilities are  pretty much the same as they were before. Except previously his effect only applied if he was played from your hand - using Stay on Target on him before the update would have meant he is a pilot and he's piloting whatever vehicle you put him on, but, since he was put into play, rather than played, his effect doesn't work. Not only is this needlessly confusing, but it would also have required some way to track whether he was played or put into play, which is something no other card in the game cares about.

There is also a clarification from Nate French on page 8 of the rules clarifications as well.
