Jedi deck focusing on grabbing the Force and protecting the big guns. Crow gives the deck some much needed oomph on the attack. Lemme know how it looks!

Eh, it depends.  I do like to commit Yoda and Obi-wan, if only because they're elite and designed for it, sort of.  I'm actually toying with the idea of taking out H&L for Self-Preservation, but I'm not sure.  I love Soresu Training and the objective itself, but the Gotals can be tricky to use.  We'll see!  Thanks for the advice.

My Ally is the Force only destroys non-commited units, so of course you want to commit your big guys.

I love Self Preservation and it has great synergy with the colonists, but that's only if you get the objective in play. Be careful.

Although its defensive properties are inferior, A Message from Beyond could be a worthy replacement for Secrets of Yavin IV (going 1 and 1), to better abuse In You Must Go and recover some valuable enhancements.

In the very earliest incarnations of this deck, I did have Message in (I think I took it out for Self-Preservation).  It really does have some great cards; the lack of units is what worries me about it, though.  Also, I've run 6/4 splits with my Scum deck for a long time, and it's a nice split.  You get a nice core theme plus versatility.  However, this time around, I know exactly what I want to do/how I want to play.  Defensive control with a midgame win is how I'm most comfortable playing any card game, and I think an 8/2 build with most of these cards will let me do that.  I think Secrets just gives you a lot of stuff to make that work: shielding, protection, and damage deflection.  My droid namesake also gives event cancellation and is good to use to grab the Force if you need it.

Self is really a great set, as you say, and it's what I took out to put the Crow in, along with one copy of Heroes and Legends, of which I used to have two.  I'm very torn between the two.  With Self, I get the extra force icons, which is wonderful, plus Soresu Training (best thing to put on Yoda ever), and the Gotals are okay.  The event and fate card aren't bad, either.

With Heroes and Legends, I get two Kyles, and he is just a great unit to play first turn.  Focusing shenanigans with him are very nice when the objective is out, and I looooove tutoring.

My overall impression of the two competing sets is that Self gives me the coolest cards, but H&L, with tutoring and the ability to switch out units, makes the deck work better as a whole.  It's a tough call for me.

I'd try dropping Guardians just because I feel future sets will overall outperform them, and we should all learn to play without all that protection, just like Sith is learning how to play without Counsel.

Now that the jedis get more resources (jedi valley), i think that forgotten heroes -pod becomes an interesting option again for the jedi decks.

My Ally is the Force only destroys non-commited units, so of course you want to commit your big guys.

My Ally Is the Force Reaction: After you win a Force struggle, destroy all units committed to the Force.

    Eh, it happens.  x3

That's a very good point, though, about learning to play without the training wheels we've all come to grow and love.  It's a big and scary step, but you gotta do it, just like taking off the training wheels.  xD

I would love for Forgotten Heroes to get more love.  Especially because I love Self-Preservation and the objective set Knowledge and Defense (with the Sisters of Allya).  Serious card drawing potential, which I always thought Jedi should have a little more of.

EDIT: I haven't been keeping up to date on the tourney scene, except for Freeholders madness.  How are Sith decks changing?  The thought of giving up the card draw in Counsel really freaks me out; I don't know if I'm ready to make that change to my own Sith deck, though I did take out two Serve the Emperors and put in two new Mara Jades.

My current Jedi build has Forgotten Heroes so I can swap that Obi for Balance Obi. It's fun to get information during edge battles, then swap for balance Obi in the force struggle and get some extra cards.

As I see it, you have the classic Sith with lots of 0-cost events to abuse Vader. Then you have the post Freeholders/Dash Sith who can't afford to have a full hand at every time, so no Counsel (this could and should change with the restricted list tho'). With fewer 0-cost events (Dark Precog), Vader loses a bit of power, so it's not as bad to lose him in favor of new pods like Mara or Sariss. Even Nightsisters are a good option due to their strong synergy with Jerec.

Losing the objective itself if the worst part of letting Counsel go. The rest of the pod has always been so-so IMO. It did provide a ton of resources, but all the new Sith pods have resources as well (inquisitors, libraries, dark temples).

Losing council means you lose twist. If you aren't playing killing cold, jawas or defence protocol then you end up with no twist.

So not only do you need to learn to play without the card draw from dark precog and council you have to learn to play without twist.

Personally I don't think the new sith sets are better than the old ones. They just mean you have more options when building a sith deck. You can look beyond the one true way. It's something that most factions other than S&S are struggling with at the moment.

It means that hopefully people will become less bored of seeing Sith because there are so many options.

Those are all really good points.  I'm definitely going to be keeping at least one Secret in the deck, since while the set doesn't have a ton of awesome mains, it does help the deck run so much better, with Twist, protection, and defensive event cancellation.  It's the oil in the machine, so to speak.

I really like the idea of replacing a Secret with one of those other sets mentioned.  I feel that A Message from Beyond clashes a little bit with Heroes and Legends, but it does help me get back any enhancements that might have been lost through using that objective.  Hm.
