With a couple of useful "leaves play" effects on other units, this guy can get crazy good. Note that his Action is limited to once per phase, but he is not bound to one particular phase. You can exhaust someone during the command struggle and then later exhaust someone during combat. He can even sac tokens to use his action!
This card looks strong in theory but sacrificing a unit is a real cost and best done sparingly, when he is good he will be awesome and the rest of the time... he at least has 2 command.
Decent control card that combos well with various "leaves play" effects. You won't always have a unit to sacrifice, but 3 for a 2/2/3 is far from bad-- especially since he's a Soldier and thus synergizes with Straken.
Don't forget the best time to use this: in the Deploy phase. If you were to play a penal legionnaire for zero, then use this action, you've used 2 deploy actions up at cost of 0 resources and 1 card, and gained an exhaust out of it. Thi ssort of delaying tactic is great for getting that all-important free run on deployment when your opponent is forced to pass

This seems like less of an issue for the AM then for other factions. Straken's signature squad alone offers multiple ways to fuel his ability with minimal investment.
Good ingame effect, for sure not the most exciting but still good with the likes of Ambush units.
A solid 3/5 rating, becomes great with certain Warlord signature Support cards.
This guy's Action also leads into an opportunity to deploy an Elysian troop, too. He's a walking combo enabler for AM and even more so now that the Inquisition Acolyte is out - letting you draw cards when he leaves play.
This Captain is a Combo-starter builded in a pretty decent body. He's strategic presence is felt in Deploy phase (with Penal Legionairre) and in Combat paired with Mortar et similia. A compulsory 1x in any AM deck, often a 2 or 3x.

Since he doesn't specify Army Unit, does that mean you can sacrifice your Warlord for the fastest theoretical win possible (3rd action of the 1st deploy phase)? I mean, not a win for the player that does it, but a win for somebody.
Yes and no. You can do it, but it has to be the Combat phase, not Deploy.
But why???????
Dakka, that's why.
Warlords cannot be sacrificed. Page 14 of the Rules Reference Guide.
@MightyToenail - ah, yes, I see that it has to be at "this planet."
@Majestaat - good to know. Just in case.
deleted bullshit I said here...
Quick question
. Markis can sacrifice units only on planet where he is present or on whatever planet he wants?
Look at his ability, notice the wording "Sacrifice an [ASTRA MILITARUM] unit at this planet to exhaust a target non-warlord unit at this planet."
Which means a) he has to be on a planet (you cant use that ability in your HQ) and
you can only sacrifice units from the planet he is present atm.
I love Captain Markis, but do him a favor and don't ever compare him side-by-side to Syren Zythlex. It depresses him.
Thanks, english is not my native so it kinda confused me
Good stats and his special play well into the AM playstyle.
