Important to note that this will fetch non-Tau attachment's.
This is an excellent early capping unit. While its stats are weak, you're really paying 1 for a command icon rather than a combat unit. The fact that this grabs a card to replace itself in your hand when you play it is icing on the cake-- this unit provides card advantage in more ways than one!
Can this be used to fetch Stealth Cadres? My gut says no, since it's only an attachment for the purposes of entering play (which doesn't apply here), and isn't a drone.
Nope, only if it's an Attachment type card or has the Drone trait, which Cadres are neither.
One thing that people overlook is the ability for these guys to grab Iyanden Wraithguards (4/2 with armorbane) as Eldar, as they do have the Drone trait. So good!
Fantastic card, so flexible it isn't even funny. 5/5.
Underpriced digger. It however needs a proper deckbuilding.

Because I've rewritten it so many times in the forum, thought I'd post this here so I can reference it in future:
The ECT Fallacy: "I don't want to play ECT, as I'm wanting to draw this non attachment card and I don't want to move it to the bottom of my deck."
Long answer:
Earth Caste Technician helps you get attachment cards. That much everyone knows.
However, what it does NOT do is make you less likely to get non-attachment cards.
If N is number of cards in deck, then:
There is a 6/N chance that it will push the card back by 6-N places.
There is a (N-6)/N chance that it will bring the card closer by 6 places.
Those odds balance out so that on average, ECT does not make you any more or less likely to draw any non-attachment card in X draws.
In fact, because its a 1 for 1 command capper, it probably increases the size of X through command competitiveness, so speeds up the drawing of that card. Additionally, regardless of outcome, ECT provides us with information about card position of the cards in a deck.
Short answer:
Play the ECT anyway and trigger the reaction. On average, it benefits you.
And on a side note a logic like "I don't want to play ECT, as I'm wanting to draw this non attachment card and I don't want to move it to the bottom of my deck." is not different from believing that wearing a lucky charm is going to influence the outcome of a match.
Said simply, unless you have stacked your deck and know the card you're looking for is in the top 6, you are far more likely to move the non-attachment card you want closer to the top than you are to be forced to move it to the bottom.
Yu-Gi-Oh-style "heart of the cards" faith that because you need it, the card must be on the top of your deck notwithstanding....
Hmm given my last couple of tournaments, I might consider doing the lucky charm thing. Cold logic doesn't seem to be working out for me.
This card is just one of the best 1command -1 resource unit in the game. He gives you card advantage in turn 1, and improves a LOT your chances of having a Recon Drone in your first turn of deployment if playing as TAU.
That is not real, is just an interpretation. You can also think about it like: you are discarding up to 6 cards to the bottom and now you have more chances to draw your needed non-attachment card (that maybe was at the bottom).
The true fact is that ECT gives you an extra card and real chances of finding a needed attachment.
The card will be a staple forever.
