This strikes me as a very weak unit-- compare to Tactical Squad Cardinis, which is 2 for a 1/1/3 with the same ability. On the plus side, a Chaos deck can turn this into a very cheap AoE 2.

I find both to be good. This can attack for 2, very valuable against the numerous 4/2 or 3/2 out there. The biggest real problem is not having command icons, making this a battle only card. Tactical has one command icon.

Very decent to good card, nice body and AoE is fantastic. The lack of command Icons however makes this a 3/5.

Can Chaos turn this into AoE 2? I thought Zarathur's ability didn't affect AoE.

"When damage is assigned to an enemy unit at this planet, increase that damage by 1" (Zarathur's ability)

AoE is still damage (it's just not attack damage, though to keep you on your toes the unit does count as attacking) so yes he affects it. He affects pretty much everything, whether it's attack damage or effect damage.

Zarathur's ability affects all damage assignments to enemy units at the same planet. If you want to get really technical, it does not change AoE 1 into AoE 2; it increases the amount of damage assigned to each enemy unit by 1, but the difference really only matters if someone were to try to cancel Zarathur's ability (they'd have to cancel it once for each unit taking damage because it's being triggered once for each unit taking damage).

Decent body and ability for their cost, but it sadly lacks command.

3/5 because it has a potential for the future (Kabalite trait).

The only option for Eldar splashing DE to get AoE.

Now Eldar is more aggressive (than at time of core set), I think this card certainly is more playable than it was. AoE 1 is rarely decisive, especially on such a low HP unit, but as part an overall pattern of early aggression with 1-3 cost units, its not at all bad.

The trade off, of course, is weaker command from forgoing Tau allies, but access to Archon's Terror almost makes it worthwhile

Also Eldar struggle against horde tactics, against which AE1 is sufficient.

So, insight of the day... This card is dead good in Eldar.

The meta has changed enough that Eldar can routinely field 40 command icons with good efficiency. Decks like that can afford to run some 0 command plays. Sure, its worse than cardinis, but Eldar need AoE more than SM do.

This is a really good card.

Don't compare to Cardinis. Don't compare...
