If you have 3 of these in play, can you see a cultist dies, tap, draw one chaos unit, tap another copie, draw another chaos unit and so on?
Math question: is this card worthy? Let's assume I'll play 3x copies of it in a full chaos deck, but, in this current meta (with very few cards) is this card a viable option for a deck wich might need a lot of non-chaos cards? e.g. promotion.
What do you think?
From a strictly mathematical perspective, the answer is quite simple based on your total deck composition. Let's assume a 50 card deck. Add up the total number of chaos units (remember this is chaos UNITS, not just chaos cards). Multiply that number by 2. This is the percentage chance for the Murder Cogitator to successfully draw you a card upon activation.
eg. Out of the 50 card deck, you have 30 chaos units. This gives you a 60% chance of a successful card draw when you activate the Cogitator. Or in simpler terms, if you activate the Cogitator 5 times in the course of the game, you can expect it to yield you 3 successful card draws. On the other hand, if you only have 20 chaos units in your deck, the percentage of a successful draw drops to 40%. In this case, if you activate the Cogitator 5 times in a game, you can only expect to succeed in 2 card draws.
So, clearly this card is more powerful in decks with most or all of their units coming from the chaos faction. Of course, there is also a question of how may Cultist or Daemon units the deck runs (or is capable of producing) to generate activations of the Cogitator. Also consider that running multiple copies of this card can run into diminishing returns when you try to activate them all from a single cultist/daemon death. Say you have 3 Cogitators in play. A cultist dies and you activate the Cogitator. The card is revealed from the top of the deck and it is not a chaos unit. Now the other two Cogitators cannot be of use until a card draw occurs to clear that non-chaos-unit card from the top of the deck.
Card with a whole lot of potential when the cards fit in place. Currently has no real deck to work with but has so much synergy with the Cultist tokens allready I can't but rate it 4/5.
It's worth in a deck with a lot of units, better if mono-Ch. At the moment is a cheap way to delay deploy, the effect is unusual to trigger completely.
3/5
With more chaos cards in the deck these days, this seems rather good.
