An Ion Rifle on one of these could spell some serious trouble for a warlord.
The more I pour over the Tau the more and more the ethereal pheromones convince me that they are going to be so brutal to play and deal with.
These guys are going to really BUG some opponents...eh? Eh? But seriously, this is a powerful unit and with the plethora of tau attachments to pump up ATK (or give out AOE) this could be the workhorse of the Greater Good during the Core set and perhaps beyond.
Really solid 4 drop for the Tau, 4/5 in my book.
This guy + Aunshi = scary things?
Tau can't really afford to play this card. At bare minimum it should have a second hammer, as it stands currently it's pigeonholed into being a planet 1 battle card that needs Aun'shi to babysit it unless you can Ethereal Wisdom + Kauyon it into something. If your opponent can handle it cost-effectively (Terror, Inq. Fortress, Eldorath's reaction, Ragnar + Crush, whatever) that resource swing will most likely cost you the game. It's unplayable out of Shadowsun, and even in the deck that won a store championship where this card was present 2x the person playing it said they didn't do much.
I'd say Shadowsun can't afford NOT to play this card. One of the stronger Shadowsun archetypes is Tau gunline, with Marksmen, Rangers and this card representing the nine ranged units. While this card is the least efficient of the three, there's still a lot to be said for using Shadowsun to drop an Ion Rifle/Cadre in or an Ambush Platform to drop in a Gun Drones.
Till a better ranged card comes along, this one remains a necessity for Shadowsun gunline decks.
