Interesting mechanic. Might be good against swarms to a certain degree. (First unit able to stop the Forward Barracks snowball on its own at least).

But with an Ion Rifle onboard the Enforcer can also potentially destroy two good enemy units, or at least force a lot of shields usage.

And there's definitely a nice synergi with the Banshee Power Sword for a potential warlord kill seeing as the damage can indeed be reassigned to a warlord unit..

I like that workaround-idea :)

This is probably my favorite of the crisis suit cards.  That's significant action advantage and he's a prime target for an ion rifle.  So thematically these XV8s have target locks and multi-trackers installed in them?  I hope we get more pilot only attachment to simulate those types of support systems (i.e. twinlinked weapons, targeting array, iridium armor, hardwired systems).

Reassigning damage means that the damage is not dealt to the original target, so I don't see how it can hit two units.

Or am I missing something in my reading of the card?

you don't have to reassign all of the damage.  You can leave a portion of it on the original target.  It says any amount.

Add:  Per the rules when dealing damage from an attack you can assign more damage to a unit than it has health remaining.  That extra damage is normally ignored in step 3 when the unit takes damage, but in this case it is reassigned in step 1 before ignored.  Therefore something like Ion Rifle can give this guy two pretty beefy attacks.

it says reassign ANY AMOUNT of that damage.  so you leave enough on the first unit to (hopefully) kill it, and then reassign 2 more onto another 2 HP unit and hopefully kill it as well.

Based on the wording the reassignment happens right after the assignment, which means it happens before shields are played.  Therefore after you reassign damage the opponent will have an opportunity to shield both instances of damage.

Ooooooooooh, I thought I must have missed something! Thanks, that changes everything :D

Also, the reassigned damage would retain Armourbane should that be applicable

Great Aun'shi unit. Boost his attack, then move just enough armorbane damage around to maximize kills. Shadowsun might like it too, but she seems to get more mileage out of using non-Tau units and augmenting them with attachments.

Would it work with armorbane though?

Would it work with armorbane though?

Yes, for basically the same reason Armorbane works with Area Effect: Armorbane is specified in the rules as follows:

While a unit with the Armorbane keyword is attacking,
the opposing player cannot use shields to prevent

damage

In other words, it is not restricted to damage from the attack itself, but applies to *all* damage that occurs "while the unit is attacking". And this unit's reaction triggers after damage has been assigned, but before it has been shielded, so it occurs while the unit is attacking.

(Sentimental Marine). Such a good unit with Ion Rifle.

MMM, Yes!  I really don't like tau, but I'm very glad this ability is worded so well(correctly, imo).  (unit is infinitely better than "army unit")

Gets around "bodyguard" type units nicely too.

I believe this gets around honored librarian, so he's a good unit to knock them out as well.

The only drawback of this card is it is a 4 cost, which is not Elite, and will not get all the protection from the current Elite themed cards...

Nevertheless, still an excellent card, especially in  Aun'shi.

Would Indomitable work against the reassigned damage?

Would Indomitable work against the reassigned damage?

Yes, it does. Reassinging dosn't change the source of the damage - damage by an attack.

Yes, it does. Reassinging dosn't change the source of the damage - damage by an attack.

The answer on that was the opposite when the question was asked regarding Steel Legion Chimera.

The answer on that was the opposite when the question was asked regarding Steel Legion Chimera.

It was discussed in topic about lurking hormagaunts and crushing blow.
SM unit attacks and assign damage. LH reassigns damage to OOE. And SM player can use crushing blow to add unpreventable damage to OOE.

To clarify a somewhat confusing wording, "damage by an attack" isn't the source of the damage, it's the type. NecRus888 is right that the source doesn't change - but the source isn't "an attack", the source is the Enforcer unit. Reassignment only changes the type of the damage, from "damage by an attack" to "damage from a card effect", therefore preventing the opponent from using Indomitable against the reassigned damage, but not preventing use of cards that care about the source specifically (say, if the Enforcer was a Space Marine unit, you could still play Crushing Blow on the unit the damage was reassigned to).

Yes, thx! Now its correct!

Sorry, I am more confused by now.

So, if XV8-05 Enforcer attacks an SM unit, say 10th Company Scout (2/1), and decide to reassign 3 damage to a Ready Blood Angel Veteran

1) Can my opponent use Indomitable on the 10th Company Scout to prevent that 1 damage?

2) Blood Angel, since it is ready, takes 2 damage (assuming no shield is played)

Another scenario, if XV8-05 Enforcer attacks an Steel Legion Chimera, and decide to reassign 1 damage to a  10th Company Scout (2/1)

1) Does  10th Company Scout (2/1) take 1 damage and die (assuming not shield is played), since the source of that 1 damage is "from card effect" not from an attack?

Indomitable

After a [SPACE MARINE] unit is assigned damage by an attack, prevent all of that damage.

Blood Angel Veteran

While this unit is ready, it gains, “Interrupt: When this unit is assigned damage, prevent 1 of that damage.”

Steel Legion Chimera

Reaction: After a non-Vehicle unit you control at this planet is assigned damage by an attack, prevent 1 of that damage.

In the first scenario:

1) Yes. The non-reassigned damage is regular "damage by an attack", so he can use Indomitable on the Scout.

2) The BAV takes 2 damage, and he can't use Indomitable on them (because the reassigned damage is not "damage by an attack")

In the second one:

1) Correct. As in point 2 above, the reassigned damage is not "damage by an attack", so the Chimera's ability won't prevent it.

A note to be made however, is that both Indomitable and the Enforcer's ability are reactions to the same trigger: damage being assigned. This means that scenario 1 can have different outcomes depending on player initiative:

A ) If you have initiative, you can trigger the Enforcer's reaction first, and reassign any amount of the damage to the BAV. Your opponent then has the opportunity to react and play Indomitable on the Scout.
B ) If your opponent has initiative, he gets to react first, so he can just play Indomitable on the Scout first, preventing all 4 damage from the Enforcer, and leaving you with no damage to reassign.
