I'm not convinced.

2 Ressources to kill a void pirate after command struggle is too expensive, so you're aiming at Skull Slavers or Skrap Nabba or something like them.

Are they even played enough to warant a counter? And even if, is killing them for 2 after they already got their bonus ressources worth it?

Kaptain is another expensive ally.

I agree this is not a very good card at present, but it's certainly got potential. Have seen worse.

I disagree. Letting them have 1 command struggle then killing them and winning your own seems fine.

It isn't 2 cost to kill a VP, its 2 cost to kill it and replace their hammer with one of your own.

The 3 cost allies with resource/card boosters are common in decks I have seen. Guardians at a late planet are another.

Cost 2 payable in installments for a card with OK stats for cost (I consider 1/2/2/ normal) and removing an opponent - even if its a VP that's worth it.

Finally, removing said VP to ensure when Power from Pain goes off it kills something dangerous? Really good.

Verdict, a solid card for 3/5. Another cycle of 3 cost allies pushes it to 4/5.

I still hold it at 3/5 personally because of the need to trigger a battle on that planet in order to flip him up. Which means you have to practically send your warlord to a back planet to kill the ally, and at that point, why not kill it with your warlord?

Have I got the deep strike rules wrong then? Does a battle have to be at the planet to flip it? I thought it was just as any battle begun.

above is a link to a rules forum thread. Just scroll down to the images of the rules insert for deep strike. It states that deep striking happens after initiative determination, but before ranged skirmish, per planet.

I see. In that case this card is much weaker than I first thought, only really helping with Power from Pain.

There are 21 Ally cards right now. Some of them are pretty unlikely to pop up (Penal Legionnaire isn't even a real card!), but others are staples in many decks (Sacaellum Shrine Guard is standard for A.M.)

Penal Legionnaire isn't even a real card!

Tell that to the guy who runs Coteaz at my local store! Anyway, power depends on the opponent's deck but still an average body for the price. Will improve with more Deep Strike cards too as it will make him harder to guess.

My point still stands - while some allies are irrelevant and won't come up once players expand their card pool (Penal Legionnaire in this case), there are enough allies out there that are staples of every deck that the ability won't be useless because it never comes up.

The judgment of its value will be based on how good the ability is. Not terrible and it's a Deep Strike card. As more of them come out, it'll get more value. Enough? Hard to tell. Probably not.
