Ahahah.
Regeneration is no longer the best Tyranid attachment.
I would say its no longer the only best Tyranid attachment ;-)
Spore Burst over HVC?
Don't know what would be wrong with Spore Burst, considering an infestation heavy deck like Omega
Granted, there are usually more opportunities to play Spore Burst in an Omega Deck, rather than merely using it for shields, but even then I've never felt the same surge of mischief as I get from playing say a Deception or an Emperors Warrant. Whilst I have resurrected the odd Virulent Spore Sacs or Pyrovore with an opportune Spore Burst, I've always felt like it has been marking time in my decks until we got a new 2-shielder...
...and here it is, and you can trigger its ability in the combat phase (and to a certain extent you can keep your opponent on their toes). Oh, and if you are playing Omega then you can ambush it in. I'll take x3 please!
yes this is a 3 of in all nids decks
3 of Spore Burst AND 3 of this please. Six two-shielders is pretty much de rigeur, these days.
I finally played Subject Omega for the first time the other night and was pleasantly surprised. Managed to pull off a nice Genestealer/Ambush combo with a Ruined Passages trigger which nearly, nearly bloodied a Gorzod+Bloodrunna in one turn. I can only see this making that mechanic even better. Ambush in the attachment, spend as many resources as you need on +2ATK pumps, potentially get some of the best surprise Warlord kills the game can offer.
I think it's being overlooked a bit by the prospect of the bonus attack, but the bonus health can be quite nasty too. Get this on a pyrovore, ravenor, harpy, the gargoyle hive mind unit, etc, and you're able to keep a unit alive for a long time, which can just as easily spell doom for the opponent as the bonus attack.
Hitting home on the same point, but after a couple of trials this card seems to be insanely good. Omega + Stalking Lictor have no problem winning a tonne of spare resources, which makes this an absolute bomb.
I don't deny this is a good card, but it is interesting. If it was a 2 cost attachment that said, "Exhaust this card to get a +2 ATK or +2 HP until the end of the phase," it would not be considered a good value, I bet. People would compare it unfavorably to Ion Rifle and HEG.
At 3 cost, you get +4, which makes it more appealing, but I'm not sure unequivocally better than Heavy Venom Canon.
HVC is elite-only. You can drop a Ymgarl Factor on anything. Oh, your warlord decided to face off against my Toxic Venomthrope at an already-infested planet when I'm playing Omega? Shield the attack, drop a Ymgarl, swing for 6, optional No Mercy, oh sorry, you wanted to play the game with an unbloodied warlord? Investment: 2 for the unit (who you're playing anyway, because command), 1 for the card, 3 for the attack power: total 6 resources. Barring STC Fragment, an elite with HVC costs minimum 8, and is highly telegraphed (though similar issue exists for Ymgarl Factor outside Omega). Heck, even with STC you're spending minimum 6, which matches the Ymgarl Factor and requires 3 cards instead of 2 (STC, elite, HVC).
If HVC didn't have the elite restriction the two cards would be much more of a toss-up (and HVC would be an auto-include in every Tyranid deck ever). As-is, though, Ymgarl is a far better investment.
Additionally, HVC paints a giant target on your unit but gives it no additional protection. With Ymgarl, you choose your preferred attack/defense balance, and you can do it across multiple combat rounds/action windows. It's incredibly flexible.
Agreed with Skaak. Ymgarl's big advantage (assuming a non-Omega deck where it becomes insanely strong as an ambush attachment) is flexibility. Prior to this card, we had Heavy Venom Cannon which could make elites hit really hard, and Regeneration which could make almost anything more durable. Ymgarl can do either offense or defense, whether it does so as well as either of the other options is debatable, but that flexibility of use as well as being able to go on any target and potentially make it threatening, is highly valuable.
Of course, you can just run an OOE elite deck and play all 3 attachments for maximum Nidzilla goodness. ;-)
