Played this is a Swarmlord deck for a bit, absolutely hated it. Wimpy as all hell for a 3 drop, replacing these with either Tyranid Warriors or Volatile Pyrovore was a massive upgrade.

Fascinating: I actually find it to be the second best 3-coster after Volatile Pyrovore.

It helps get numbers up for Termagant-based effects, is effectively 2x 1 attack on the first round, and accumulates attack strength as the rounds go by. Also, it works regardless of whether or not there is any opposition, so long as there is a battle and a combat round.

I like it with plenty of Hive Mind units, but I took it out of my Old One Eye deck because too often, either the combat doesn't go more than 1 round, or the Termagant Horde doesn't last more than 1 round.   3 was a lot to pay for 1 ATK / 1 hammer that comes with a token.

Mostly I wanted to save money for Harpies, and I felt like Tyranid Warriors were the best 3 cost unit for Old One Eye.

Swarm Guard anyone?
Termagant Spikers?

Well, I'm pretty unimpressed with Swarm Guard, as I've said on that card's comments. The fact that its benefits expire when the swarm goes back to HQ is problematic to me. Spikers I also don't rate, as there's no command, and there's too many moving parts required to get a worthwhile ranged presence down.

Agree on the Swarm Guard - I thought they were great at first and then pretty soon shunted them out. Looks powerful on paper but realistically isn't so hot.

Disagree on the Spikers though - I've actually won one or two important battles, if not even final battles for the match, with them. It's more of a late-game play though - with Swarmlord + Gravid Tervigon I've had games regularly hitting the 10-token cap by the 3rd or 4th planet in, and if you can then maneuver the swarm onto one planet 5 or 6 1 ATK ranged opportunities can be decisive. Not their best 3-drop, but potentially a one-of.

I don't want to derail too much, but if your termagants are coming back to HQ, then you've probably won the battle. The fact that the Swarm Guard pushed the battle in that direction would be a point in its favour in my books.

The Horde itself isn't too bad and a Regenerating Horde is pretty neat (and isn't shut down by Suffering).

I love these in Old One Eye.

Drop on a decent Battle-effect planet (I like atrox so they can't be hit by Atrox, but Elouith is great as well) and send Savage warrior Prime there. Get a nice build up of gaunts going.

Also useful if you're playing a lot of heavy hitters as your opponent may be forced to leave the Horde alone to focus on your Ravener or Harpy and every round youre just getting more l

And can help fuel the best support removal in the game. And Hive Mind. Zogwort was shafted on his signature squad.

One of those units opponents have to kill even if exhausted. Awesome

I'm starting to realise that I've been overlooking this card given all the positive comments on here, and therefore it could be a sound addition to my Old One Eye deck. But with so many good elites to choose from its difficult to find space in the '3R or more' card slots...

How many elites are you running btw?

I tend to run 5 elites plus 3-6 three-costers - so space is tight at the top end of the market. However, in the meantime I can confirm that Termagent Horde has now slotted into my deck very comfortably... Not sure why it took me so long to see sense!
I like the Horde, but it doesn't currently find a spot in my OOE deck. Swarmlord, certainly. But in OOE it loses out to Tyranid Warrior purely for the extra command icon--in every other sense I prefer the Horde. Give them a Regeneration and they're a real headache. Nids just need some more command before I'd make the change. No idea if I'd use them in a Subject Omega deck. Waiting to see if we get a 3-cost Genestealer to pair with Pyrovore instead.
