DE needed a beefy unit. He will do just fine LOL
Other than the one Command Icon, inferior in every way to Goth Nob. Ugh...
Context is everything. DE don't have access to Goff Nob.
What they do have access to, of course, is strong 4+ cost units out of Eldar and Chaos.
A conditional play (torture event, played as combat action, before he attacks) to get this to a reasonable 1/6/5 is asking a lot. We can predict with fair confidence that the Dark Eldar warlord will be Urien Rakarth, and that there will be more torture events and interactions.
However, the viability of this card depends on beneficial trait interactions with Creature, Abomination and Elite. Fall Back alone doesn't cut it right now.
This card seems to be undervalued by quite some people.
The reasons being that Urien will most likely have the option to play a Torture every turn. Now paying 5 for a 6/5 with command is never bad in my book. Granted nothing fantastic a 5 body is much harder to crack as a 4 body as seen on the likes of Bloodletters and Possessed.
5 is a steep cost, especially in a faction like DE. If you're allying with Chaos, why not go Possessed? If you're allying with Eldar, Wildriders at 4 are fantastic (though fulfil a slightly different role). Klaivex has also been spoiled as a brilliant 4 cost in-faction. Most DE draw heavily so 5s aren't ideal. In a torture deck Soul Seizure is another 5 floating around as competition. Abomination synergy in future might make it viable, but I don't see any place for it at present, even with Urien decks offering a (near) constant proc.
It is a steep cost but again I feel Urien will make use out of this card. If you are allying with Chaos I cannot allready say Possessed are better because (again with Urien) it's quite likely to play a Torture card every turn.
I do agree that the Wildriders are fantastic but a 6/5 body with a Command Icon should not be underestimated... altough I do feel its on the heavier cost of the curve because it also has the Elite keyword like Possessed.
I do think eventually you will be right in that it still is in the shadows of the comming 4 drops of the Dark Eldar. Which made me redo the rating to 2.5/5. Not there... just yet...
Very true, at the same time this card still is quite unique with it's ability and also is an Elite card. Possessed are often better but a x/5 body can be better as any x/4 body aswell. To add to that, this card also is an in-faction "Possessed" which can prove to be positive when cost reduction cards are added to the deck.
Lets not forget that the Grotesques can be used when Eldar is the ally faction, whereas Possessed can't. Not a huge thing but worth remembering. If there were better reducers they'd be a decent card to include in an Eldar main deck with DE as allies.
I can only agree with that. It's also important to remember that cross faction references don't always hold up.
In special when the Possessed are compared to units of the same cost they will not always do the same for the allied faction. Now I am fully aware that Dark Eldar can field Possessed but this directly exclude the options Eldar give to them.
With 4 signature Urien's torture cards to play for 0 cost, Power from Pain for just 1 cost and probably more torture to come it will be reasonably easy to keep it at 6/5 most of the time.
But i just don't like expensive units since this game have plenty of cheap removal cards and investing too much in one unit is not a good idea.
But in this case I think it would be better to play Possessed or Virulent Plague Squad (I do belive what this card have great potential with Urien) or Baleful Mandrake with Hypex Injector it will be awesome with this warlord.
