This is the kind of card that makes me consider using expensive allies I wouldn't otherwise. It feels thematic, too, though I'm not sure why. Not an auto-include by a long shot, but I'm happy with the card; it's effect is cool and ubiquitous enough to not feel bad about playing it because the art and name are so awesome.
Does this save from Moribund:Discard burn? Threat from the North (PotS) et al?

It's not a save, so not exactly. But it does protect from it provided it was put on a character during the previous challenges phase (since it's a challenges event).
Why does it have to "gain" anything? Can't it not just say "Attached character cannot be discarded from play"? And with the "gains" part added, the rest should probably be in quotes. It's not a keyword, like "gains renown".

I agree it is worded poorly, but that seems par for the course these days.
The card actually follows standard templating, based on a quick keyword search. Anything that becomes an attachment almost always says "Counts as an attachment with the text 'Attached character gains...'"

Since it's in quotes, they would have to have nested quotes, which nobody likes.

Then, attach Fire and Blood to that character (counts as a Boon attachment with the text, "Attached character gains 'cannot be discarded from play'")
