OK, Shyra Errol on the table, with Stannis Baratheon (VM) covered in renown power and a duped other character, say the Knight of Flowers. Someone plays Valar Morghulis. Shyra and Stannis die - can she trigger her response to transfer the power to the KoF?

Nope, she is already moribound: dead pile, so you can not discard her to pay for her ability.

My answer would be Yes if you didn't have to discard her as a cost... ~~. Because it is a response to the death, and moribund cards have not left play yet (they do so in Step 6), during the Responses opportunity (step 5) you can trigger her response.~~

Wait... what?! You COULD trigger her response if it didn't involve discarding her as a cost, but you can't discard a card, that is already moribound: dead.
