OK, Shyra Errol on the table, with Stannis Baratheon (VM) covered in renown power and a duped other character, say the Knight of Flowers. Someone plays Valar Morghulis. Shyra and Stannis die - can she trigger her response to transfer the power to the KoF?
Nope, she is already moribound: dead pile, so you can not discard her to pay for her ability.

My answer would be Yes if you didn't have to discard her as a cost... . Because it is a response to the death, and moribund cards have not left play yet (they do so in Step 6), during the Responses opportunity (step 5) you can trigger her response.

Wait... what?! You COULD trigger her response if it didn't involve discarding her as a cost, but you can't discard a card, that is already moribound: dead.

Yeah, I my understanding of the rules says that Crow is correct.

Ah crap, I failed to see her ability cost was to discard her. She is already moribund:dead, so Crow and Empty are correct.
That's kinda what I was getting at - she's already moribund so can't do a damned thing. Limited use then.
