If the attackers are killed then the attacking strength is reduced to 0?

Exactly. Unless a character survives the slaughter, all of the characters have been removed, making the total strength zero.
Does killing the attackers and reducing their attacking strength to zero mean they do not receive a mil claim, classing your defence as a win?

Well, provided all attackers were killed, their STR in the challenge is zero. Also provided that you do indeed include at least 1 defender, then you will win the challenge having a higher STR participating in the challenge. This allows you to trigger any effects for winning a challenge as a defender.

However, you could also opt to not declare any defenders. Provided your opponent has no way of including a new person into the challenge, then the challenge ends with no winner or loser.
isn't it a case that if at any time no one is actually in the challenge then the challenge is over? so unless they bring someone into the challenge as a result of people dying the attacker wouldnt have any other oppurtunity to put someone in the challenge

I beleive that is correct. If the attacker loses all characters before the resolution then there is no challenge and thus nobody wins the challenge. The challenge was still initiated however so they cannot simply try again

@Korvacv, that's correct, but you could play the event after declaring a defender so that you would be able to trigger any "win defending" or "win MIL" challenge effects after successfully killing all the attackers.
Met a Dothraki kill deck with my Stark deck once. He attack with everything except for a Bitter Crone. I defended with only Robb Stark (Core) and then knelt my other two characters to play this card... all Dothraki died except for the Bitter Crone, who died by Robb's ability xD
Dont morbound characters leave play at the end of a challange?

Dont morbound characters leave play at the end of a challange?

Characters killed by Lethal Counterattack leave play at the end of resolution of this event.
Characters killed by claim leave play at the end of challenge, after responses to challenge ending.

New to the game and I just want to make sure I understand this event card.  If a player had a duplicate attached to one of its attacking characters, it would still be in play after the event card was resolved, correct?  So that would mean that the challenge continues with the "saved" attacking character and is resolved accordingly?
