What if a card is returned to the hand and then put back into play that I had previously used black cells on?
Short answer: No. Once the card leaves play, the effect is over until Black Cells is triggered again.
Detail: Cards can only be affected while they are "in play." So if a card leaves play, any lasting effect on it, including the one created by Black Cells, ends. If that card comes back into play that phase, it is considered to be a brand new copy of the card. It doesn't matter if you know it is the same piece of cardboard; the game treats it as a new card. So you cannot "re-assert" the ended lasting effect on the "new" card.
While ktom is here......
SCENARIO:
I have a Black Cells and Kingdom of Shadows in play.
Opponent has a shadows Varys already in play from the turn before.
I bring out a shadows card, and trigger Black Cells, choosing Varys as the target (cannot kneel or stand).
My opponent wins an Intrigue challenge.
QUESTION
I know it is typically a legal play for him to choose an already standing character with the shadows crest to satisfy Kingdom of Shadows. --BUT-- in this situation, can he choose Varys to satisfy Kingdom of Shadows even though Varys "cannot kneel or stand"?
On a sidenote, I hate that you can choose to stand an already standing character with KoS.
You would not be able to choose Varys in that situation. The fact that he "cannot stand" makes him an illegal/ineligible target for standing effects. Some other shadow card would have to be chosen.
Maybe a dumb question but:
this card says that the chosen character cannot stand or kneel. Does this prevent the opponent
from using this character? I mean... Can he declare the chosen character as attacker?
Normally you have to kneel an attacking character (if the text don't state something else). Or do
you create a non kneeling character for your opponent by choosing a standing one?
(Would be dumb
)
Otherwise i think this card is very hard to trigger to be a game breaker.
It doesn't "prevent" opponent from using that character, it just says that the character cannot stand or kneel. If the character does not kneel to attack or defend, there would be no problem using it in a non-kneeling challenge. But as we know, most of the characters must kneel to be declared a participant, so The Black Cells would prevent that.
Thx. Then it's better than i thought it would be. Combos extremely well with Shadow Preston
