So, with this card being in the "spotlight" today, figured it would be a good time to pose this question:

Tinkering around with an Alliance/Treaty Agenda for a Bara & Stark "Noble" deck - mostly focused on Renown/Rush. So, generally speaking, do you think this Ned, or Core Set Ned, would be the better choice? Sure I know it might be difficult to say without seeing the decklist, but I don't really have one yet...

This guy is great because of the "immunity" and card draw he could possibly provide (the deck would potentially have about 20 "Noble" characters - 10 uniques w/one dupe each), but of course CS Ned has the "Deadly" and auto power token.

Thoughts?

Quick rules question, too - does the "cancel" effect of this card only work if one single target is affected? What if there was an instance where a triggered effect might affect, say, two characters but they were both "noble"? I would assume the cancel wouldn't work, since the card specifically uses the singular form, but figured I'd ask...
This Ned definately. He offers a huge amount of protection.

As to your question, I'm pretty sure you are correct. The "Only" indicates a singular target

kotm says this in the official forums in this thread

Eddard can only cancel an effect wherein the Noble is chosen as the only target of the effect. With Game of Cyvasse, remember that the character with intrigue icons knelt are chosen/targeted, too. So if someone "wins" the Game of Cyvasse and chooses to return Eddard to hand, he is not the only target of the effect, so his play restrictions aren't met and he cannot cancel the event - in whole or in part.

I wonder - if he is given the intrigue icon, can he then be chosen? I would say definitely yes, but I bet everyone would argue with me and make me look like a jerkstore.

Thanks for the feedback.

@Darksbane - I like the artwork better for this version anyway! Felicia Cano is an amazing artist.
(besides, better artwork helps you win games, right?)

@ WolfgangSenff - beats me... good question, though. I would think not, since he's still not the only "target".
quick question. if say the lanni iron throne cancel the ability of a noble is the cancel targeting the char?? guess not but thought i would ask.

is the dupe given abilty targeting the charater its saving??? so can i cancel say cercei saving herself??? (she is a noble) guess not also.
I'd also like to know if the duplicate triggered response "targets" the character it is saving....

Thanks!

Saves never target. You could cancel someone using Lost Oasis (AToT) on their The Red Viper (PotS).
the claim 0 ned is the best defensive ned which is really the question here.... core set ned yes has deadly and stalwart and claims power... but in a power rush deck that wont make the difference most the time... this ned may make you immune to events that target noble characters... but they are not as common as normal military or power challenges.

i would use the claim 0 ned to oppose a challenge and still loose then have all my renown characters free to make the bum rush myself....

claim 0 ned in conjunction with the many effects barathions have to stand a character means only intrigue is an issue, but that is what the laughing storm is for. effectively making all 3 challenges a bit of a waste against you in a melee stopping an opponent from targeting you at all and concentrating on the other players, and in a joust it is horrendous
claim 0 Ned has the big problem of not having the stealth keyword so ou need other cards to really make him work.

I agree w/Ire. Having experimented with all the Neds, the "0 claim Ned" seems the least useful. Sure he is nice to cancel out a big claim 2 or 3 challenge, but doesn't stop deadly, he can always be stealthed, and your opponent can still get renown and other benefits from winning the challenge.

okay just getting clarification this still costs 6 during setup correct? if in bara of course.

Yes, "...reduce the gold penalty to play..."

yea that is what i thought just wanted to double check, thanks
