If you don't trigger the response of the duplicate and let him die (dupe goes to discard pile and Drogo goes to dead pile) then yes, you can trigger it because he did indeed die
Retreat (Core)? Would Khal be considered killed and I choose to trigger his response first, to search for X Dothraki characters and put them in hand, and then I trigger the response of the event card to put him into hand, all while he is in Moribund?
Or does his response and effect only trigger "After" he is killed and placed in the dead pile?
But then again, the wording on the event card also says "After one of your unique characters is killed..."
Edit: I realize I didn't actually clarify: You do get to trigger his response before retreat makes him go back into your hand (Responses happen in step 5, cards leave play in step 6).
