Ugh...thabks for clearing that up ffg
It sucks, but you can't use Rickon's ability with things that don't allow you to search your whole deck. Just like Galbert.
@robertito.
You can use Rickon with Bran the Builder, but you will have to pay the 3 gold both times. Rickon copies the whole effect, and not just the searching part.
To Be a Wolf (SB) you only stand one character. Rickon allows you to copy the effect, and paying the gold and standing the character are both costs, not effects.
Sorry for leading you wrong :\
Rickon says to copy the effect that allowed you to search your deck. This means that you have to copy the whole effect (not including costs, because that is not a part of the effect). So, in the case of Building Season, you copy "you and that opponent must each search your decks for a location, reveal it, and put it into your hands. Then, shuffle your decks. "
"'I have Maester Luwin (Forging the Chain F21) and Galbart Glover (Called by the Conclave F41) out at the same time. If I win a challenge with Maester Luwin can I search the top 5 cards of my discard pile?'
No. Searching the top 5 cards of your deck does not count as searching your entire deck."
And Galbart Glover says: "While resolving any effect that would allow you to search your deck, you may instead search your discard pile."
So, "search your deck" equals "search your entire deck."
As the players, we have to make assumptions based on logical equivalency, because the developers are never going to give answers for every rule. We have to take what we do know and use it to explain the cards that we do not have rules for.
If you any more questions, then you should ask KTOM on the FFG boards.
Aka. Yes, you can still trigger Rickon.
It should be noted, however, that in your example you couldn't use Rickon, he copies your search effects, not your opponent's seach effects. (So it would work if your opponent flipped Valar and you flipped At the Gates, but not the other way around.)
