Can it put Boba into play as a pilot?

Nope, because when a card is being played as a pilot it is treated as an enhancement.

I'm pretty sure this is incorrect.  I believe it was ruled that effects that put units into play, could put the pilots into play as enhancements because of the order of the steps.  let me see if i can find it in the rules clarifications.

EDIT:  found it.  very top post of the last page of the official rules clarifications thread.

here is the exact post by chiller.

"Question #2: If Infiltration or Secret Guardian is used to put a unit with the Pilot keyword into play, can that unit enter play as an enhancement? If so, will it need to return to the player's hand at the end of the phase, even though it is now an enhancement?

ANSWER:

Effects that put a Pilot card into play are somewhat different in that having the pilot (X) keyword allows you have the Pilot card enter play as an enhancement. Up until Step 6 of effect resolution, the Pilot card retains its printed card type (exclusively “unit” right now). Thus, cards that put units into play (Millennium Falcon (0332), Infiltration (0575), etc) from your hand can target Pilot units within your hand. When you arrive at Step 6 and the Pilot unit is put into play, upon entering play, you can choose to have the Pilot unit become a Pilot enhancement so long as you have a legal friendly Vehicle for it to attach to. From that point forward, it is aPilot enhancement.

If you use a card like Infiltration, at the end of the round, the delayed effect of Infiltration looks for the unit it put into play, but cannot find it. The Pilot unit you chose for Infiltration is now a Pilot enhancement. As Infiltration’s effect cannot find a unit to return to your hand, the effect expires and nothing else happens. (Thus, the Pilot enhancement remains in play)."

so this tells us, that units with the pilot keyword (not trait), are units in your hand until the final step of the process, and only become an enhancement upon entering play.  so this also means, with merc support, just as infiltration and secret guardian, at the end of the phase, the effect can't "find" the unit, since its an enhancement, and it stays in play.  I believe these interactions also work with the black squadron pilot, hoth luke, and wedge because of the errata to their cards.

This is also the reason i've been trying to put together a good deck with this set, plus fetts set, splashed into navy.  its another way to get Fett into play at action speed.  so even if you only play a single vehicle turn 1, just leave a resource open and as soon as they drop that yoda or luke, or whoever, take an action, drop fett in and grab that main.

FFG and their rules always seem to outweight what I deem logical. It is what it is then, and it's actually cool.

The Evasive Maneuvers rules insert explicitly states under "New Keyword: Pilot [X]" that

"When a card with the Pilot [x] keyword is put into play by a card effect, the player resolving the effect chooses whether it enters play as a unit or as a Pilot enhancement."

I might consider this for my pilot Boba Fett deck then.

It would almost be better if Boba did die at the end of the phase. Then Slave 1 could save him and you could repeat.
Yup, or just stay on target him from the discard pile. Still nice that you can get him onto a vehicle at action speed, though since it's a limit 1 objective, I'm not sure if it's worth keeping over, say, something like 2x xizors with head hunters, at least in my deck which splashes scum into navy.
