An awesome card, and it made me realize something I hadn't noticed when I first read the card: if a card is readied (through this or other effects, if other effects like this exist yet) during conflict, they would get to (and have to) strike again.

That's 100% correct! I used this last night with Han, it was glorious. Took out the Devastator with his "1st strike" and then 4 dirrected damage. B)
hmm..might that be the reason it is called 'DOUBLE STRIKE' -_-

Sorry I'm very new to card games- Even though it is clearly titled Double Strike, the text reads as if you are to remove a focus token to ready the attacker again to strike, but not clear that you can strike again immediately. I would assume immediately but my opponent of course was unsure and now so am I.
You would be able to strike again at the next time you would normally make a strike. So:
Your [Character A] strikes and you respond with Double Strike
Opponents [Character B] strikes
You may strike again with [Character A] since they are unfocused.
