Gotta love this enhancement. Can take out anything from Emperor Palpatine to the Devastator. Luckily for DS the objective is limited to 1 per deck :P
If I read the rule book correctly, even if this enhancement focuses down a single attacking unit, that attacking unit will still get the unoposed damage if there are no defenders. Right?
thats correct, the card requires your target to be attacking, so you can throw a chud in with him and then focus him or let the single damage go through. 1 damage is certainly better than 2+ damage.
Yes, unopposed would still apply if there are no defenders.
That is going to work really nice with the unnoposed x2 hoth card! I was baiting defenders to come out while attacking with a single unit a few days ago. He decided not to defend with anything and use the log trap to focus down my unit, so it was unable to do any damage via its combat icons. We were unsure about this ruling, so we decided not to play the unopposed dmg in that match. This way, a single attacking unit can bait defenders in a 1st wave (or have unopposed dmg be done to an LS objective), meaning less defenders for a second (stronger) wave.

Could you give an example of playing this card?

And what happens to the card when I take the focus from it after the refresh phase?

Quite simple. Let's say your opponent is doing an unopposed attack with a single unit. You can then focus Log Trap at any action window during that engagement so the opponent has to focus his own unit. If you activate Log Trap before the unit strikes, you can prevent damage. If you activate if after the unit strikes you can potentially keep it locked for a turn (remember that only a single focus token per card is removed during the refresh phase).

In a similar case, but with the opponent using two units to attack, if you focus Log Trap then your opponent chooses which of his own units to focus.
