I assume in gaining Edge 1, the additional edge does not mean they get more pips for the force struggle, correct?
Correct. This just affects the edge battle.
if this enhancement is in play, and a unit is committed to the force, that unit gains keyword Edge [1].
The "Edge" keyword is always followed by a value is the number of additional force icons the card's controller counts in an edge battle resolved during an engagement in which the card with the "Edge" keyword participates.
