What I've always though is that commiting to the Force just brings a lot of problems. Luke was a simple farmer until he discovered he was a Jedi (rather, had potential to become one). Then he lost his hand, met Ewoks and got electrocuted. Not cool.
Just like how being Force Sensitive in the RPG means all the Empire wants to hunt you down.
The scene in Empire where Luke rebuked Vader showed the selfless strength of the light side and Luke's resolution. The "Seed of Decay" in that instance is the deterioration of Vader's goal by turning Luke to the Dark Side. Vader (in this case) is now focused on somehow abducting Luke again.
Luke falling to his possible death instead of turning to the Dark Side shows Vader's influence in corrupting his son's future is decaying.
