Would I be correct in assuming that the text applies to the person who has to defend said objective from attack, not the person who played it?

No, this applies to the Dark side units when they would be attacking a dark side Mission (which would be played under the control of the LS player as per the Mission rules).

 

Basically, this objective set gives you a Mission to play under control of the LS player, which you can then attack with additional Blast damage.

Looking back at my comment, I am unsure as to what I was thinking. When I re-looked at the objective it was clear as day. All I can think was that I some how thought that the objective was another mission. Thanks for the clarification WookieeRoar.
