I take it this objective is rated so highly purely because of the other cards contained in the set? Because the negative reaction makes this the first objective I've encountered that I wouldn't want to have in play if I could help it.
It's not a forced reaction, so you can choose not to use it if you like every card in your hand. Nevertheless, the objective is always strong to cycle through your deck faster to get those cards you really want to see.
Along with the game mechanic that allows you to discard a card, before drawing up to 6 this lets you basically do the same thing without giving information about your hand to your opponent. Also, like Majestaat said, It lets you get to your better cards faster without needing to be able to empty your hand each turn.
yes, I get it now - the discard happens before the draw to reserve, not after. I originally read it as effectively reducing your reserve.
