Qu Rahn+Old Ben's Spirit

Wait till the Jedi set in the next pack comes out and we get the hidden in the shadows enhancement that makes the unit untargetable by events too. Going to be real tough to remove Jedi units with the typical Sith builds.

At least that enhancement doesn't look like it has the qualifier 'enemy', so it should make Qu impossible to heal with Rejuvenation as well, making it slightly tolerable.

Yeah, doesn't look to be enough room on the card for enemy, but that's OK. There is enough ways to keep him around long enough with stuff like the survivors, shien training, force cleansing, light saber deflections other protectors, and as Carson said, maybe old bens spirit will make a come back.

Maybe a voltron deck is in the works now that it's going to be easier than ever to keep Jedi character units alive...

Perhaps it's ironic that people are talking about putting Old Ben's Spirit on Rahn, as Rahn replaced that set in my deck. Part of the reason is there isn't much Force Lightning in my meta right now, which is the main thing that Old Ben protects against that Rahn doesn't.

I decided to swap out Yoda for Rahn (we'll see how it plays out soon) in my "Immortals" deck.

Old Ben's Spirit on Rahn is tempting for the same reason it is on Chewie: you can use that 3rd bit of damage capacity for his Reaction.

Yeah, with a single old bens spirit, rahn could do 1/3 of your win condition (assuming no scum shenanigans or objectives) just off his reaction.

Because Old Ben's spirit is an interrupt you can't trigger Rahn's reaction if you use if Old Ben goes off. Still goes well together to keep him around

Nope, Rahn works just fine with OBS.  OBS Interrupts the destruction and then removes all damage tokens.  It does not Interrupt the dealing of damage, so (up to) 3 damage was still dealt and Rahn may React back with 3 damage.

That's incorrect, as dbmeboy pointed out. It also works with chewie as well, allowing him to react and hit for even more damage.

Are you sure? Old Ben says "Interrupt: When enhanced unit would be destroyed, instead discard this enhancement and remove all damage from that unit. " so Rahn and Chewie suddenly don't have that damage on them any more. Can they still react to it? Just asking because I assumed it wouldn't work that way but I haven't checked with ffg.

I think there was an official answer by Nate about OBS + Chewie, ruling that it does work. And the reason it does work is that damage was in fact dealt and did end up placed on him (or Qu, in this case). Nobody prevented that damage, canceled it or protected it away. Though, of course, excess damage above his remaining damage capacity is still ignored and cannot be reacted to.

Nope did some digging in the rules forum and I was wrong. Old Ben does work with both of them. Interesting.

Yep.  The key is that OBS Interrupts the destruction after the point in which the damage has been dealt (you can think of Destruction as acting at super-React speed to having lethal damage).  It changes how the destruction resolves but doesn't go back in time and un-deal the damage.

Contrast with Shien Training which Interrupts the dealing of the damage itself and prevents it from being dealt (and thus would prevent Qu Rahn or Chewie from Reacting - if you managed to cheat it onto Chewie that is).

Well, I'm late to the party I see, but looks like thenamewastaken and dbmeboy straightened everything out.

As was said, even though the damage is removed with OBS, it was still dealt to the unit, unlike effects like the survivors, shien training and light saber deflection, which are interrupts and stop the damage from every being dealt to the unit.

Anyways, this allows chewie to strike back for 6, and rahn to do his full 3 health plus a further 2, after obs is used.

It will be interesting to see the rest of the vima DA boda set as it could really add a whole new style of Jedi deck to the mix.

can qu ron trigger if he has a shield?

"a unit only “takes damage” if it physically ends up with a damage token on it" (quoted from the first of the links above). So, if you prevents damage with shield, Qu Rahn doesn't take this damage. Also you can ignore shield and allow Qu Rahn to take damage - if he isn't killed, his reaction will work.

Oh ok cool thanks!
