probably only useful cos of its 2 shields icons.
Edit - Unfortunately there are no Brutal options yet.
Bad Dok looks like a good target
Blood Angel Veterans! I'm making a deck around that combo!
Q: Enemy does an Area Effect 1 attack vs my ready Blood Angel Vets + Bodyguard, Guardsman token, and Guardsman token. Do the Vets take zero damage because they got struck 3 times for 1 damage, or take two damage because you stack the redirected hits with the direct hit and THEN apply the damage reduction?
Does not work. Area of Effect is a card effect, not an attack.
Oh look shield 2! Rest of the card is bad but shield 2 makes it a staple for the moment.
This card isn't very good, but it is Shield 2 and has some nice synergy with cards like Blood Angel Veterans. I would rate this higher if it were possible to import any of the Ork units with Brutal into Imperial Guard-- unfortunately, they're Loyal.
In a pinch, it is not bad to purposefully place on a sanctioned psyker. Or even to place on a vehicle of some sort. It can also be used to force your opponent to knock off something that can trigger your string of guard leaving play combos
2 shield, plus combo with Veterans or make a unwanted target (Strakhen Squad, Enginseer, Alcolyte) a damage soaker with benefits.

This card should have a lot of value when attached to a unit that also has the Steel Legion Chimera on the same planet. Even if they attack the Chimera, one damage would go to the bodyguard unit which would immediately be cancelled by the Chimera's ability.
I don't think that works. Since it's a (forced) reaction, the assignment of damage from the attack is complete by the time the attachment's ability kicks in. Therefore, the reassigned damage would be considered to come from Bodyguard's own card effect, not from the attack, wouldn't it? And the Chimera can only prevent damage done by an attack.
This is worth a second look now that Unstoppable is a thing among Space Marines. Card loyalty issues mean that as of this writing the only potential target is Righteous Initiate - but watch for others in the future. If Templars can make a Bodyguard deck work, by God I will be there to work it.
Of course, after drafting a Straken Marines deck with Bodyguard + BAV / Initiate + Chimera, I am immediately struck by the question "why not just ally Ork for 'Ard Boyz + Chimera and use less deck space?" Especially as Initiate, unlike BAV, is of very low power when you can't force a ping onto him.
Well, brave and mighty Marines spearheading the fight and protecting Guardsmen is deliciously thematic at least, so here's a shot at Straken / Marines: "They Will Not Die."
@Superklaus: I have something similar, and I did run it out of orks instead(it's better), with thumpers like snakebite and Evil Suns.
However I recently made a Straken with 7 marines, and I think there is room for Tac Squad Cardinis, and Eager Recruit. I might take out cards like Tallarn raiders, and 1 EAT to include those homies in here, each as a "2 of".
Yeah when you look at Snakebites and then look back at Righteous Initiates you just kind of feel sad (it's so messed up conceptually that Straken, the "pump Soldiers" warlord, has a "printed ATK only" clause on his sig event). I feel that Bodyguard is superfluous when you have 'Ard Boyz + SLC, though, so as long as I'm bent on a Bodyguard deck, Marines it is. I can only hope some high-quality non-loyal Unstoppable Marines come out to challenge the Ork alliance.
Regarding this deck, anyway, I had Tac Squad at first, out of reflex, then cut them. I don't think AoE is needed. The prodigious per-attack damage reduction should carry you well against a swarm. Your trouble is a big punch that overwhelms the Bodyguards and Rockcretes. Markis and Suppressive hopefully nix those.
There are some synergies with this card, but must of them are undone by the loyalty of this card. There might a place for this card, but I haven´t seen it really shine yet.
