Ok so just a question to clarify my understanding of the assign/deal timing process.
So Reclusiam Templars (and all the Unstoppable units) are 'The first time this unit is assigned damage this round...'. Mavros is 'Deal 1 damage to a target...'. The way I understand it the process is:
Assign -> Shield -> Dealt.
So if Mavros triggers his ability on his sig unit, that damage just fizzles either way? Or because Mavros says 'dealt' is it unpreventable?
It is not unpreventable in any way. Lots of cards and abilities deal damage and then the process is initiated.
So Unstoppable does indeed prevent the (first) damage from Mavros.
"Deal" is not to be confused with "take"
This end up being untrue. The proper understanding of the process is:
Assign -> Shield -> Take
"Dealt" refers to the entire 3-step process. "Take" is the 3rd and final step.
It is a little confusing because "after damage is dealt to a unit" and "after a unit takes damage" end up happening in the same same reaction window (after step 3 is done), but "take" refers to just step 3, while "dealt" refers to all of the steps together.
Aha. I think I know where I'm getting confused - Ba'ar Zul refers to when a unit 'takes' damage and I remember getting stuck on the assigned vs take question with him. So 'dealt' only refers to the creature giving out the damage, nothing to do with the target and the shielding process.
These are great when following your warlord around, can just tap them up and then they become 3 attack too, use vow of honor on it too and you'r gonna punish someone
So, question for all Unstoppable units, sorry if it's been answered already or if this is the wrong place to ask it...
If my Reclusiam Templar is at the HQ after doing his thing at the first planet, if a later battle occurs at Atrox Prime and my opponent wants to splash pad damage my HQ units, does the Unstoppable trait protect the Templar?
The part where we grew "stuck" was the wording "assigned damage this round" as in, the combat round is over (and a new one has yet to start), when the splash damage is distributed..?
