We've seen rulings that indicate that if a battle ends before the combat round ends, things that trigger on the end of the combat round do not occur. Thus, if you play Ferocious Strength in a battle where your warlord is alone, he will be Brutal for the rest of the game. You're welcome.
(I know, I know, that can't actually be how it works, but I'm at a loss to reconcile the way I know this works with the "combat round never ends" ruling.)
I guess he might retain brutal until a "next" combat round ends.
There are three ways to look at it:
1. As Stefan says above, it doesn't say "current" combat round, so any "end combat round" will do.
2. After the battle ends, a new battle has to begin with a new combat round, so the first combat round of the next battle inherently ends any pending combat rounds.
3. With the possible exception of stalemates, the end of a battle never corresponds to the end of a combat round. As such, the end of the battle ends everything associated with it (including the current combat round) - but that is not enough to generate the specific game occurrence/triggering condition of "at the end of the combat round."
