What's with the faction restriction on the ability?

It's a fluff thing. The Barbie is from the 'Deathwatch' and it has something to do with the fact that his ability doesn't trigger against those factions. But surely he can smite them down in battle! ;)

Worse version of Klaivex. Sometimes can be useful. For three he would be very good. Overall he is worth considering to have 1 copy in deck but defenitely not more.

Re: Klaivex, its worth noting that Barbie still triggers his reaction when he deploys conventionally, so he's more useful for the command struggle than Klaivex is.

Also, comparing cards like that doesn't work. You always have to take the available cardpool into account.

That's very very true, and the meta needs to be taken into account too. Still, nothing wrong with comparing cards head to head, even if they exist in different environments.

Not good enough in the current pool. Only 2 strength, conditional ability and no use in the drop pod.

I agree, as long as, him being a worse Klaivex, isn't the reason NOT to run him.

I can see maybe a copy in Cato just because the Ambush plus ability could really make a difference and Cato can afford it. But Ragnar has better options imo. 2.5/5

This is a card that I wish they didn't design it with fluff in mind. Being unique and having faction restriction in his ability made it a weak card imo.

It's not weak, it's just not as broken, as vast majority of SM cards =))

Interesting to note that the unit can only target army units, so no hitting tokens or warlords with it.

Yes, even as the resident fluff-fan I agree with this. There were better ways of making this a Deathwatch unit than a heavy-handed exclusion from the ability text.

Still AM with SM allies isn't really a common thing, and SM with AM allies is about half of SM decks. At a guesstimate of 1 in 6 of tourney matches being against SM with AM allies, thats still 5 out of 6 games where his ability works. Thats much better odds than for support-hate cards being near useless vs SM/tau, Eldar and some DE.

Something that easily slips notice is that Barbrus can target Neutrals.
