Pricey, but hard-hitting and with a nice boost to your other Tau units.  I really like this unit, even with his forced reaction.

The forced reaction allows the Homing Beacon to trigger. .

On the cost, if you think of his reaction as an event worth 2, then his "real cost" is 2, which is fine for the stats.

Jump him in to where Aun'shi is for a surprise 4 Armorbane, then Aun'shi gets +1 for another 3 Armorbane attack. Not something you just play all the time, but could be a key surprise to turn the tides or win a game.

--post self deleted as obsolete--

He's loyal, not signature, so it's not all that bad.

If you ambush him in during the Combat phase then his ability is useless as he isn't being deployed. so it's an Either/or card.

Ambush allows you to deploy the unit in the combat phase. So he is being deployed. Otherwise the reaction would be completely useless since it's until end of phase, and having attack in the deploy phase doesn't achieve anything...

Hmm back to the rules manual for me......

Excellent finisher/Warlord Hunter, 5/5. I agree that he's quite expensive but the combination of effects he gives are fully worth it. Anything with ATK higher as Health who's returning to HQ is fine in my book. Unless your in the lategame this card will eat up a unit and thus win you the battle most likely.

This guy is great as a surprise big hit and then also boosting others. He even works out well during the ranged phase for his +1 attack on a Marksman or StingWing Swarm.

Is his reaction (the +1 to attack) usable the next game-round after he was deployed?

(He was deployed, smacked a guy, went back to HQ, committed with the warlord the next game around, and now it's combat again)?

The Reaction is only usable immediately after he deploys, and only lasts until the end of the phase, so no it couldn't happen the following round. In fact it's only useful when you Ambush him in (as described in the comments above) since if you deploy him normally the +1 would only apply to the deploy phase and not the combat phase.

The fact his Reaction lasts until the end of the phase is what sells him for me.  You can Ambush him in, give other Tau units at that planet +1 attack until the end of phase, attack with him for 4, return him to HQ to trigger Homing Beacon and then continue the battle with your now-boosted units.  In co,mbination with Aun'Shi he'll be immense.  Even Aun'Shi's signature squad stop being completely useless when they are attack 2 with Armorbane!

Remains a fantastic card for the Tau which I feel will be even more lethal for Aun'Shi. Currently this card has taken it's full place in my Tau deck and I have to say I think it's only real competition currently is the great Sting Wing Swam.

Still 5/5. There really is no reason to not include a combat buffer in a faction that allready has plentora of Command Icons but really would like a bonus to ATK or HLTH.

What's the thoughts on including this in a for the Tau'va Shadowsundeck. Is it too expensive to use like an eager recruit?

Good question, I've not tried him in that context, but the cost curve could probable accommodate a single copy.

My own Shadowsun deck has recently switched to a non-Tau'va build however, and gone from Eldar to SM allies in the process. Net result? I can use the actual Eager Recruit!

what happened to killax????

He upped and left. No explanation.
Asklepios why not use both? Ambush seems like one of the strongest effects
I'm not Asklepios, but my answer to that would be that when deckbuilding I treat ambush units with no command icons as "events with legs" (and no shields). They compete with other events, attachments and locations for deck space. And when I look at the alternatives such as Even the Odds, Deception, Ion Rifle etc, I find I simply don't have room for too many.

right, but this event pretty much reads cost: 4; give +1 atk to all units at a planet. if your opponent doesnt have 2r and archon's terror/fortress, then swing for armorbane 4 and put a 4/3 ethereal unit into hq exhausted.

alternatively you can read it: if your opponent has initiative and you go to the same planet as their warlord (both solo) with Aun'Shi and they swing first, pay 4 to bloody them and put a 4/3 etheral unit into hq exhausted.

either way, thats a really strong event for 4 cost (the 2nd description isnt even best case because only aunshi is benefitting from the +1 buff). really dont know how you could build an Aun'Shi deck without it. This guy has been MVP for me so much and has been singlehandedly demolishing nids by ways of early bloodies or early murders of their synapse units.

Right, I am Asklepios and I agree.

This is from him.

Played a tournament today and this guy combined so well with ambush platform and ion rifle. Dropping in and doing 7 armourbane was really nice.

No thanks. Use your warlord for the orbital city tricks and play a good unit instead. 2/5

A 4 ATK ambusher is a good unit.

Also, the bonus lasts until the end of the phase. So those "Orbital City tricks" could include an armorbaning warlord who bounces back a few times. Perhaps an armorbaning Tau unit with an extra attack.

("Armorbaning" is a fun word.)
