This card has the most amazing art Ive seen so far on any SM card!
Other than that this card is really cool but would have been perfect if he had the Unique Icon as this would make him immume to certain important card abilities... Currently I feel that he faces still competition with the allready great cards in SM's arsenal and more so because of it's Cost will not be included.
Now the real question here would be, is it better as Land Raider? And I would be inclined to say no due to it's HP and Command altough it does indeed deal more damage when it's on a swarmed planet.
3/5
Long story short, very cool card but it's cost really works against him. Might become better as the Land Raider if we suddenly see a multitude of Swarm decks that create X/1 tokens altough generally speaking there is nothing that forces your opponent to attack this unit with his/her X/1's...
Right now I feel the best set up is this guy plus your librarian. 6 soak that hurts them back.
Don't think it would be good, but I sure would like to see one of these with a Repulsor Impact Field, just for the lulz.
I think this one of the better big units to play. Unlike cards like Daring assault squad just using supressive fire on this unit won't be enough. You will still take dmg when attacking it.
If routed and it joins next planet with the warlord exhausted the same applies. Enemy units will still take dmg from it to remove it.
Still it's a very expensive and telegraphed unit to play but I't not as easy to just ignore like other big units.
This dude seems like a lot of fun with Indomitable. You take damage for attacking me and I still don't die, LOL!
Also Crushing Blow to remove a 2 HP attacker (eg a Vior'la Marksman with Ion Rifle) seems a nice synergy.
Not just something like a Marksman, there's lots of good 2 HP units that people run, like Librarians, Wraithguard, Bork'an Recruits, Evil Sunz Warbikers, etc
Think also we need to mention that he is good for Straken, being a Soldier, and thus is a reasonable replacement for the card slot we have Leman Russ or Valkyrie in. AM has a lot of damage prevention tricks too.
Clearly, am aware that there's a LOT to be said for Ork allies for Straken right now, but its worth mentally noting for the future.
Yeah I feel the biggest downside for this card is that Leman Russ sort of out preforms it imho, as this card does not really force the incentive to attack it. Which in turn makes it less of a problem card as say Leman Russ.
The other reasons here is that 7 HP clearly is superior to 6 HP and 3 Command clearly is superior to 2 Command.
I would have loved it if they simply would have printed AoE 1 on this bastard aswell, this way he would be a real swarm-cleaner.
But do they?
Realistically the Klaivex Warleader will deal with this card and the same goes for Archon's Terror.
For Zogwort this card can be a slight issue but with Launch Da Snots, Thugs/Warbikers and Catachan Outpost can still be dealth with quite well.
Again we are talking about a 5 drop here and I feel Land Raider is superior to this and even that currently cannot do insane stuff in the meta.
Archon's Terror and Klaivex are great answer cards, for sure, but if any faction is likely to bait those cards into being played, its the Space Marines.
Let's face it: Archon's Terror is going to be aimed at Honoured Librarian a lot of the tme, and a lot of other Units can also tempt it into being played earler. Adding one more problem that needs answering isn't a bad thing, and of course whatever card was occupying the slot this card takes was likely going to draw the Terror / Klaivex anyway.
Re: vs Leman Russ, I'd call it about even. The stats might be slightly worse, but that IS a good card ability.
You're right though - the cost keeps it from my deck as well. I don't use the Land Raider either!
Yeah and I mend Land Raider to start with!
I do have to say that the Storm Bolters are likely to remove the Iron Halos from my deck.
To much crazy stuff has allready been done.
Can you use crushing blow on enemy attacking the firedrake terminator before it deals damage to you? for example, librarian attacks the terminator, takes 1 from terminator and you use crushing blow to kill it before you take 4 damage?
Yes.
