How does this guy "stack up" to the old Jorah? The old one is pretty much an auto-inlcude for any of my Targ or Stark decks - great cost, stealthy tricon, and I don't really sweat the "-1 STR" thing - I'll suck it up. This current one I might put in a heavy war crest Targ deck I'm cooking up, but other than that...
Yeah I think this guy probably wins out in most of my decks. I mean any targeted removal is huge in my book. Plus that War crest is awesome. Joust is even MORE awesome in a house with burn. Not to mention he's really only one extra gold, loses stealth but gets joust, a crest and removal. I'm going to be using this in all my targ decks.
Don't have any experience w/"joust", so I guess it's tough for me to appreciate it. (I definitely respect the "melee" keyword, though, after seeing it in action with the LotR set). Will try him out one of these days - I do like the card, just feel "safer" with the old version I guess.
Yeah I know what you mean. There are definitely situations where this guy can really bite you in the ass, and the older version really can't. I think this version will be more help than hurt most of the time though. Joust is REALLY REALLY strong if you can always win a challenge with him. I mean being able to win a challenge by just kneeling one character is HUGE! I think you'll like it.
if no other mercenaries or allies are in play, does he discards himself from play?
yes he does since his ability is passive and must resolve also since it is passive it cannot be cancelled.
"After Ser Jorah Mormont comes into play, choose and discard 1 Mercenary or Ally character from play". Does it means, I have to choose and discard or my opponent have to choose and discard 1 Mercenary or Ally character from play?
Whoever plays Ser Jorah does the choosing. Note that it is passive and therefore not optional--if there are no other Mercenaries or Allies Ser Jorah will discard himself.

I really like this version of jorah, the discard ability is really good and can be combined with rhaegar's harp if your opponent isn't using allies or mercenaries.

Joust on a tricon is powerful, especially when combined with burn, although it may get worse when challenge enhancements are added in the next cycle. Guess we'll have to wait and see how they stack.

IIRC the naval only works on the attack, ergo it won't effect Joust.

Well even if you are wrong it doesn't change that the opponent can still only declare 1 defender, and the naval enchancements are indeed "declaring" more defenders so they would still be limited by the Joust keyword.

is this guy worth voltroning up or is his ally trait to much of a negative?

i only ask because jorah with aegons blade and tears of lys is now a 5 str, tricon with a war crest, and joust, deadly, stealth and renown? and im looking for a charcter to jack up with Prince that was promised to close out a melee game

@Staton wow never even considered how strong joust would be in a deck with some burn, well thanks for giving me my new deck idea, and a use for Tourney Swords
The text box mentioned 'After Ser Jorah Mormont comes into play' does that mean that I dont get to discard an Ally or Merceneary from play if I marshall it during the marshalling phase..?
For effects like this discard, I never understood if it was okay to select opponents cards?
Yes, you can select your opponents cards.

Typically, when a card has the format "Do X to do Y", the X is considered the cost, and costs must always be paid with cards you control. There is no cost associated with this ability, so it is perfectly acceptable to target any applicable character - including your opponents.

In response to Davison's older question - "Comes into play" and "enters play" works for any effect that ends with that character being in play - so his ability works whether he is marshaled or put into play by a card effect. Cards like Balerion the Black (RotO) only work when they are played, so put into play effects don't work there.
