One of the real Lannister power cards in the Core Set, A Lannister Pays His Debts is something that folks should always fear coming back at them when they win a challenge against Lannister. One important note for those using the card- don't forget that you can chump an attack at the opponent in order to lose and then kill their defender.
It also combos extremely well with the brothel guard from Lions of the rock as you want them knelt anyway. Another thing to keep in mind is that it isn't Lannister only so you can run it in Alliance decks something most people tend to forget
Funny in Clan deck
Why isn't this card used anymore?
How does the timing on this card work? Can this be played in response to your opponent being declared the winner but before claim has been settled?
@hoobs
It's not a save/cancel response, so you will have to wait until the response window after claim is chosen.

@NegativeX
Not sure. My guess would be because people are running a lot of cancels these days, and kneeling a character as a cost could be risky. I still think it's a great card though.

So, after I lose a military challenge, can I kneel a Lannister character I just chose to kill for the claim to pay the cost of the event?

Yes. Althought the card is moribund :dead pile, you can still kneel it to pay for costs (as long as it is standing) until the Framework Action ends and moribund cards leave play.

Thanks a lot. I'm still struggling a little with timing.

In that same step, after passive efects resolve, is where triggered efects that take place/respond after win/lose a challenge are played? (Tyrion (core), Seductive Promise, Jon Snow (core) etc.). All this happens before Renow?

If my claimed character for losing a military challenge is already in the dead pile (i. e. after step 6, so the challege is completly resolved), can I still kneel another Lannister to pay for playing A Lannister always...?

For a framework action you follow the framework steps first, with each getting a save/cancel opportunity before resolving. After all framework steps have occurred, then passives happen (also with save/cancel opportunities). Renown and Deadly actually take place as part of the framework steps in a challenge, happening just before all other passives go off. After all passives are resolved, then players may take turns using responses to anything that has happened so far in the framework action. This response oppoortunity is where you can use A Lannister Pays His Debts. Once all players pass the opportunity to use response, the framework action ends and all moribund cards go to their destination.

This means that no more responses can be played, so you can't use ALPHD since the opportunity has now ended. Also, since ALPHD specifies a 'participating character' once the challenge ends their is no challenge so no characters are participating.
