Yes.

What if he has copper link attached? Could he kneel for his save effect, resolve the response of the copper link to give night's watch to another character and then choose that other character to save?

Depends, how would you have him stand after he knelt to save himself?
I'm guessing the question is if you can have him kneel to save a character that is given the Night's Watch trait at the same time from the Copper Link - And I'm guessing the answer is no since you can't even attempt to trigger his ability to perform the action (since the target is not legal). Someone will have to confirm this though.

Well I know Maester Wendamyr (KotS) can kneel to save himself and be stood all in the same action, so he could be used for additional saves (such as against a Valar or 2 claim MIL challenge).

Oh, was reading his question wrong. I was thinking he was saving himself first, giving someone else the trait and trying to save them. However, you (Firgus) appear to be trying to kneel Aemon to "save a night's watch character" before there is a valid character with that trait. So no, that is not possible.

As a general opinion, is he worth throwing into a deck that is weak on military as a claim soak character? Maybe even bringing him out with
At the Gates (GotC) first turn just to have him for the soak? I am asking because I'm considering a Lannister Maester deck and bringing him out for protection rather than a different one for rush.
I'm fairly new to the game.

Since this card has no challenges' icons, how are you using it?
He is a good character for soaking up military claim - because he is Night's Watch, he can kneel to save himself. There are also several agendas for the Night's Watch (The Builders (ASitD),The Stewards (AKitN), The Rangers (WotN)) that would give him icons.

I'm kind of new to this game, I've played three times but I still don't quite understand this card.  He is part of the Targaryen house deck which I get b/c he was a Targaryen before joining the Night's Watch.  But in the core set decks the Targaryen house deck doesn't have any other Night's Watch character's besides him.  So other than using him to save himself he really can't save anyone else when you are only jousting right?  If playing melee I could see how you could use him to help another player save a Night's Watch character.

My other question on this card is he doesn't have any challenge symbols on his card so how does he participate in a challenge?  Same thing with the Bran Stark card from core deck.  How does he participate if he has no attachments added to him?
