I presume not since I would be the one "putting them into play".
(On the other hand, if an opponent used Narrow Escape, I would be able to respond on my own character(s) being put into play - if there were any.)
eg... cat isnt a member of house tully anymore but she still has the tully trait
Elleria has 4 daughters by the viper.... Elia, Obella, Dorea and Loreza
Why would she have it? She isn't nor never was a sandsnake, sandsnake is just the nickname of viper's kids.
I believe I'm reading you correctly and to my understanding your conclusion is correct. Your Narrow Escape would be considered you putting characters into play, not your opponent.
Where she get really nasty is when facing an opponent using shadows/ambush to claim power in marshalling and other phases.
I pull an unexpected power challange with double stealth, win by 4 or more (i guess unopposed with 2 claim), seductive promise on his biggest mil character: win military to wipe the board, then win intrigue unopposed. Didn't get renown from the viper due to Frozen Moat, but I went from 5 to 15 in that turn and won
Don't underestimate this card, lol
where does it say that bringing cards out of shadows is putting them into play I always heard that wasn't the case.
"Bringing a card out of Shadows
At the beginning of the any phase, a card that is in Shadows can come out of Shadows and into play at the discretion of the player controlling the card

Slander and Lies (HtS) is also terrible.
If you can beat Martell in intrigue. Not a given even for Lannister, with Burning on the Sand (not restricted in melee) and He Calls it Thinking to deal with cancels to that.
Slander and Lies is a bigger problem. Thankfully as a condition there are ways to remove it long turn - the damage may well be done by then however. If Brotherhood becomes more popular again (possible since its the focus of a forthcoming chapter pack) I can see that really hurting.
A solution to her that is applicable to a lot of other problem cards could well be that old chestnut, Milk of the Poppy. Nightmares as well, unless you run lots of shadows/ambush and also marshall characters.
I'm not so sure. Quoting the FAQ:
(3.8) Gaining Abilities
If any card effect has the text "character gains...," any ability (traits, keywords, icon modifiers, or STR modifiers are not considered abilities) following the word "gains" is considered to now be a character ability. However, that effect is not assumed to be a part of that character's text box. Any effect that blanks a card's text box is assumed to blank that card's printed text box.
To me this says that Ellaria's ability is not negated by blanking effects. I'll be happy if someone corrects me though!
The thing the FAQ is more referring to is when it is gained by another source. Something like Ser Parmen Crane (KotStorm) grants abilities to other Lord characters. If you had Milk of the Poppy (Core) already on Renly Baratheon (TRS), since he still has his trait he would still have the gained ability from Crane.
