Autoinclude in a lot of decks even outside maester theme. We can put into play any in house or neutral Maester with cost of 3 gold. And we have still remaining 3 gold and city treat for further play. Of course autoinclude in maester deck to bring fast into play needed maester for chains. In influence heavy decks we can put into play Advisor to the Crown (QoD). there are as well many in house maesters which can be brought into play with this plot.
Can I put into play a in-House maester character that is not of my House when using At The Gates?
in-house means that his house affiliation matches your house card, so no.

I read in the earliest pdf (Stark helps Lannisters) that at the gate was used to do so... A mistake?
nope, it was errated later to be "in-house or neutral maester" instead of just "maester" as it was abused too much back in the day.
Can I dupe an unique maester with AtG plot?
