Lord trait, noble crest, tricon with renown immunity and a non kneeling to attack effect, this with
Lost Oasis (AToT) and Poisoned Knife (ASoSilence) is a destructive force
or alchemist shop with venemous blade for surprise deadly
As of the 4.0 FAQ he's restricted only for Melee. Not in Joust.
own abilities.
Also, duplicate is not considered a character, so - he can be duped.
Is he immune to the mono Icon dudes? I hear that he is but I don't get that. True? or not true?
Yes, since he is immune to character abilities, he is immune to the mono-con guys. He is also immune to Willas Tyrell. It doesn't have to be a triggered ability to be considered a character ability.
So if I have TRV in play AND Stalwart Shield (both in my control), does SS still "protect" TRV, or does TRV's immunity prevent SS from protecting him?? I've heard/seen it both ways, but still confused. I see both points of view/arguments...
SS reads: Noble characters you control cannot lose icons, have their STR reduced, or be knelt by card effects.
The thing a lot of people have trouble with is that "immune to character abilities" means that the card ignores the effects of all character abilities. Even the beneficial ones.
Thanks for the responses.
For me, at least, the issue wasn't negative/beneficial character abilities, but more an issue of "is SS affecting TRV, or is SS preventing the card effect which is burning/kneeling/icon stripping TRV."
For instance: I totally get it that when Ser Boros Blount comes out of shadows, TRV cannot gain the +1 str benefit. This is a character ability which would directly affect TRV with a +1 str buff.
What about a case where an opponent triggers the Black Cells and targets TRV. That's legit of course since TRV is not immune to location abilities. However, if I play He Calls it Thinking to cancel the Black Cells, that's ok too, since HCiT is targeting The Black Cells, and not TRV (who is immune to events - even beneficial ones).
So I suppose my confusion/uncertainty was: "Is SS affecting TRV in a similar way to Boros Blount, or is SS affecting the game effect, in a similar manner to HCiT, which is being mean to my beloved TRV?"
Another comparison: if I were to give TRV the Nights Watch trait (say, via "First Ranger" attachment) and I had Jon Snow in play, I realize TRV would not gain "immune to events" from Jon Snow, since Jon Snow specifically says that a Night's Watch characters gain "immune to events". However, SS doesn't actually give nobles gained text or abilities that prevent them from being molested. Rather, he himself prevents the effect. (Yes, I realize TRV already has "immune to events" on his own, so maybe not a great example, but still valid).
Probably just grasping at straws and reading way too much into it (and probably ignoring lots of rules/FAQ enties)
For me, TRV's immunities don't present much of an issue (although it would be great to be able to use Choosing the Spear on him). At least he's safe from the likes of Coldhands and characters with targeted kill effects such as the new Dany. Being able to attach HCIT can put him out of reach of City of Soldiers for a time too. I'd say overall his immunities present a far greater headache for opponents.
Opponents' attachments are the biggest minefield...
